Ackley Improved Information Needed?
« on: January 23, 2008, 11:45:53 AM »
Hey guys,

Is there anywhere on the net that I can look up information on all the Ackley Improved Cartridges. I would like to learn about them as they are referred to in all of these forms. I want to see why there are so many fanatics about the cartridges and how there performance is versus standard cases.

Thanks,

Bob

The best place is direct from the horse's mouth, "Handbook For Shooters & Reloaders" By P.O. Ackley.

They might be available at your local library, if not...

The rule of thumb is that your increase in velocity will be 1/2 the percentage increase in case volume. IE. if you increase the case volume by 10 % you will get  5 % increase in velocity. If the book tell you some thing that is very far from that they are doing some thing other than increasing case volume, like loading the round to higher pressures.

Here is some information  http://www.6mmbr.com/243win.html         http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek042.html

I happen to shoot  the 6RemAI ,243AI plus 7 other AI rifles.  I have found when I decide on an Ackley caliber I find a barrel that will enhance the performance it can be twist,length,5c,5r etc.

About 100fps and longer brass life.  Some say accuracy is also better with an AI.
