.222 or .223?
« on: January 23, 2008, 05:56:33 PM »
any reason i should pick a .222 or .223 over each other? i have a chance to buy a BDL in either caliber. the .222 is slightly more expensive but i wanted thoughts on it...

If you reload, I'd get the 222. Sentimental reasons. Most accurate rifles I ever owned were all 222's. In a light rifle they also keep the scope on target, the 223 bounces off just a bit. If you don't reload, 223, hands down. many might say 223 anyway for all the cases that are around. they are probably right.

They are Both good choices, the 223 might have a edge in components being available(real deals on once fired brass) for cheap! The 222 has a little edge in accuracy, but most shooters wouldn't notice the difference. Both are very user friendly, and easy to reload for,and shoot a wide variety of bullets, and powders well. That really cleared things up,didn't it? ;D I don't think you will be disappointed with either gun.Ron

I have three 223's
I like being able to walk into any sporting goods store that sells ammo and be able to pick up a box of 223 and not pay an arm and a leg for the ammo and go shooting that day.  I would see if your local stores carry 222.
As to the accuracy,  Yes 222 is more accurate.  308 is more accurate than 30-06 but you can still hit what your aiming at with the 06.

saved a ton of money on the .243 compared to the smaller calibers...it's a walnut ADL that looks just like the BDL's do now...i didn't even know it was available or i wouldn't have been asking about the .222 and .223. i have about 100 rounds and a lot more brass for the .243 already from when I used to have one years ago, so it seemed like a better choice. there IS a method to my madness, i promise. i can't guarantee anything about your wife's madness though lol....:)

Matt,
Don't feel bad.  I have walked into a shop with $ to buy a varmint rifle (CZ 527 in .223 and a 6-24X42 scope) and I walked out with a Win M70 super grade in 338 Win Mag for me and a pump Browning for my 12 year old cousin.
Sometimes other things pop up that are too good of a deal to pass up.
Congratulations on your purchase.

Both are great choices and I have both but If I were you I would go with the 223 Rem, but it's kinda like comparing Apples with Apples if you know what I mean.
