I have one on a Mossberg 500 that I use for turkey hunting. Mine is synthetic with a place on each side that holds 2 shells each. I like it because of the fact that it carries more than enough ammo for a turkey hunt without carrying loose ammo in my pocket and trying to remember which pocket I put it in.

The one on the top is a speed feed.  It's used to store additional shells.  There is a spring inside the stock with a buffer, similar to that of a shotgun equipped with a magazine tube.
