I would like to know if i wanted to make a 7.62x25 rifle which would be good choice to make it out of as far as rechanbering a barrel and need a good gunsmith to do it and about how much would it cost to do. I am thinking this would be a neat project. any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

There are no .30 cal H&R barrels that would work, so you'd have to have a barrel bored as well as chambered, that'll cost the better part of $300, a 22 Hornet barrel would work for that. Another option would be to have a smith weld a donor underlug onto a barrel blank of your choice, Wayne York of Oregunsmithing is doing that for me with a Shilen match 6.5mm blank for a 6.5x55, cost will be about $200 plus the cost of the barrel blank.

Tim, that 6.5x55 sounds like a honey! Using a 26" barrel?

Hope you'll keep us informed on that one!

Illhunter,
I too had thought it would be nice to do a Handi in 7.62X25.  But I looked at the specs, I just can't see it.  The .30 Carbine beats the pants off the 7.62X25.  .30 Carbine has over 900 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle, almost twice the 500 of the Tokarev.  I do have something in the works for after market barrels for the Handi.  It is too far away to start talking about it.

I think I would just love to have a Handi in .300 Whisper, even without the can.

Thanks,
Paul

I had a 22hornet re-chambered and stubbed with a .308 GM heavy barrel at 16.5". Laminated stocks, forend pillared  and bedded, 2# trigger. 8-40 scope mount screws. !.5" groups at 100 with 10,2 grns L'il gun and 90 grn XTPs. Coyotes don't like it and the 285lb black bear sow{head shot with S&B fmj} fell like a sack of potatoes. No idea what speeds or muzzle energy. It goes where I go. Good shooting, Guy
