First Attempt At Stock Refinishing
« on: January 26, 2008, 03:09:37 PM »
I decided I would try my hand at stock refinishing with my NEF Pardner Turkey.
I wanted a natural finish instead of the matte black paint from the factory but
I wanted to stay with the low gloss dark theme for turkey hunting.

I sanded the stocks down to bare wood starting with 80 grit working my way up to
320 grit. I stained with zip guard ebony. I did 2 coats on the butt stock and 4 coats on
the forend. I finished with 3 coats of satin wipe on polyurethane lightly sanding with 400 grit
in between coats.

Full shot with Pardner Turkey, .357 Handi and my daughter's Versa-Pack.

I like that...You did a real nice job.  I especially like that you did it in a low gloss.  Looks real nice.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm already pondering what my next project will be.
My daughter told me she wants wooden stocks for her Versa Pack so I might start looking
for a set of youth stocks that I can refinish.
