CDL 700

What are the opinions of a Remington CDL from the ones who own one? Also what about the CDL model 7?
I enjoy collecting guns, swaping and staying up on all the newest models. I deer, quail, squirrel and rabbit hunt.

Nice looking guns somewhat similar to the original Mountain Rifle except with a standard BDL contour barrel rather than the lighter Mountain Rifle contour. For anything with more recoil than an '06 I actually prefer the CDL to the Mtn. Rifle but for those with less recoil I like a bit less weight. I do prefer laminated stocks to real walnut as they are more stable and less prone to swelling in bad weather. But really these days I don't go out in the rain anyway so it's kind of a moot point for me.

I do have an M7 CDL also and like it quite well other than as I said I really do like laminate stocks over walnut. Mine is a .260 Remington. It's not greatly different than the original M7 really other than having a 20" barrel with a bit more weight to it than the 18.5" of the original M7 which my wife uses.

I feel the M700 CDL in .35 Whelen which is the one I bought is about a perfect match weight wise but I still prefer the laminated stocks. That's why I picked up a gray laminate stocked SS LSS in .30-06 which I hope to eventually turn into either a Whelen or a 9,3x62.

billy,  I have a CDL in 30-06 and I love this rifle. The stock is very well made for a factory rifle and the cheekpiece lines the rifle up perfectly for me.  It seems to fit me very well and point itself.  I mounted Leupold VX-II 3-9X40 scope on it and it weighs about 9lbs with scope, sling, loaded magazine.  It's definetly not a lightweight but it's not heavy either.  I think the weight is about perfect for longer range shooting.  The rifle is very well balanced with the set up I have and was pretty accurate right out of the box.  I shot a variety of ammo and all of it was 1 1/2" MOA or less, most of it shooting around 1" MOA.  My rifle really likes Hornady 165 gr. SST light Mag ammo and Winchester 180 gr. XP3 ammo and good ol' Remington 180gr. Corelokts  and will shoot 1/4" MOA with all 3 of those factory loads.  I haven't put together any handloads for it yet but I really don't need to because the Factory ammo will take care of anything that I would use this rifle for.  The trigger on mine is very crisp and breaks like glass, but it is a tad heavy for my liking.  I don't have a scale but I suspect it's around 4 1/2 to 5 lbs.  Overall I am very pleased with this rifle and if I weren't moving to Indiana and had the money I would buy another one it 25-06, 7mm UltraMag, and 35 Whelen.  Oops, I guess that's more than one! :)

Hope this helps,
Ken

Oh, I forgot to add in my last post;  Although I have never handled or fired the model 7 CDL, if I ever strike it rich then I will also have a few of those in 223, 7-08, and 350 Rem Mag!    I really like the CDL stock design, it just looks and feels like a rifle should to me instead of the plastic and stainless that's so common on todays guns.  I would love to see them do a special run of the CDL with a nice curly or quilted maple stock;  I would have to take out a loan if they did that.  :)
