.348 in 1895?
« on: January 27, 2008, 04:37:31 AM »
I haven't been able to find any information on pressures in a .348 Win.  Is the Marlin 1895 able to handle that cartridge?  I have an idea for a project rattling around in my head and was just wondering.

the 348 Winchester is to long to work in the marlin 1895 action.  I believe dave clements offers the 348 DC that should match the 348 win and is offered in the 1895 action.

I've been drooling over the Wild West guns co-pilot take down models and it occurred to me that you could set up that take-down with additional barrels as long as the cartridge rim was the same size.  Not too many options in 45-70 though.  Maybe if I got one in .444 I could have another barrel made up in .358 or .309 JDJ.

Anybody have any ideas?

I'd call Wild West and ask them.  Or try emailing them but they tend to give short answers if they answer at all.  They can also seem in a rush when you call them but if you get Jim himself he might give you some time and ideas.

Good luck.

I wish Marlin would make the .375 JDJ a standard offering.  T/C offers loaded ammo. but I'm not sure it would function in the .444 Marlin length action.

Talked to SSK, and they will not do a rebarrel of a tubular magazine rifle in one of their JDJ cartridges due to the pointed bullets used.   :'(

Here is another question:  I know that the .444 has a .514 rim and the 30-30 has a .506 rim, is this too much of a difference for a 30-30 to work on a .444 bolt face?  I think a .444/.30-30AI switch barrel would be pretty neat.
