CZ 527 7.62x39 action
« on: January 27, 2008, 11:17:36 AM »
I would like to buy a 7.62x39 527 action and clip for a project rifle, stock would be a plus too. Anybody know where to get one? I want to rebarrell/rechamber it to .35x39.  Thanks.

I'd just buy the complete rifle, cost would probably be the same or less than buying an action and a stock seperately.  Unless you want a longer or heavier barrel than the one on the carbine, you could send it to Wayne York in Oregon and have the barrel rebored and rechambered for $250-$300 or so.

I've looked at that and haven't made a decision  yet, price will make a deference, still in the beginning stages of this build,(lots of planning first ), I have found some load info and where/how to get dies and reamer, Just gotta price check everything before jumping in.

Years ago I saw some CZ 527 actions for sale by a distributor, I think it was in the shotgun news.  They wanted almost $400 for them, I want to say it was $379 and some change for a blued action.

I own a CZ in 7.62x39 but What I would do is buy a Stevens 200 in .223 for $275

I just sold the barrel and stock offin mine and made back $120 of that cost

Then you buy a SSS PPC bolt head conversion for $45

and then you have a BBL maker of your choice thread a barrel for you to fit the savage action for anywhere from $150 on up depending on the grade

Buy a good stock for $150

For $500 you could have the rifle ready to roll without paying a gunsmith $$$$ to do the work

The only problem with that conversion is that on SSS page about the bolt head, they say upfront that ejection can be iffy with the conversion.  If it's going to by used as a field gun, I think that I'd want reliable ejection.  If you're just punching paper/targets, it's not quite as important.

I'm having a hard time finding the refrence that you speak of. Could you point me in the right direction?

My bad Krochus.  I admit that I haven't looked at SSS website for some time (years  :D) now.  When they first came out with the conversion bolt head, it had it's own page on the site, and they discussed issues with the extractor/ejector in regards to feeding and chambering from the magazine.  I was all set to have a Savage done in 7.62x39 until I read that info.  They must have gotten the bugs worked out.  Now I may just have to take a look into it myself.

From what I understand they used to only offer a special extractor for the .473" bolt head. I can imagine that that wouldn't have worked very well. But an "opened up" 223 bolt face they currently offer should be as good as anything else.

Ah, yep, that was it.  They hadn't gotten the altered .223 bolt head out for sale yet.  You are 100% correct.

That's a awful lot for an action seeing as I just bought a complete rifle for 490.00 out the door, If they want that much this won't happen with a CZ. The savage route has some merit thou, Its still early in my research so options abound I might even try this rechamber/rebarrel job on a sks.

It's like that with just about any action you buy.  I've seem Remington actions NIB sell for hundreds of dollars more than complete rifles.  It's crazy.  I usually buy the complete rifle cause it's cheaper, sell the parts I don't want, and use the proceeds to help pay for my project.  It was the same with the Charles Daly Mauser rifles that were sold several years ago, before Remington bought the rights for it.  Because of various tariffs during the Clinton years, you couldn't buy the complete gun.  What they would do is sell you the barreled action for a price and then send you a "free" stock.  Problem was, you if you just wanted the barreled action without the "free" stock. it cost about $50 more.  ??? This didn't last long, after the tariffs were dropped, there wasn't any issues.

Call Williams Precision @ 770-757-1590. He 'has' had scratch and dent 527s in 7.62 x 39s for sale. Some are the old chamber that CZ changed. I think present day 527s in 7.62 x 39 have an 'A' prefix on serial number signifiying a newer chamber design. It won't matter if you want to pull the barrel and reset headspace with a new barrel [.35 cal] anyway. Neat sounding PROJECT~! Let me know if you carry through with it.
I purchased one [old chamber]and it shoots so well 'as is' that I can't make myself do anything to it other than change stocks. The carbine/open sight CZ has a drop comb stock meant for open sights. Other 527s have a much higher comb and are better for scopes which are all I use anyway. Lots of neat 20/22/6mm PPCs and Grendels have been made on these great actions.
DO report back if you do the .35 x 39,,,,I love the .35 bore.

since my original reply on the possibility of building a Stevens 200 I have done just that ;D I now am the proud owner of a 26" 1-15 twist .308 bored bull barrel chambered for 7.62x39. As things stand the only part I'm waiting on to complete the rifle is the opened up .223rem bolt face

I thought about buying the 527 action with the 7.62x39 bolt face to barrel in 6mmPPC.  Found the price for the 527 Carbine is about $100 more.  Haven't gotten past that yet.  Maybe later.

I have a cz 527 in 7.62x39,picked up cheap. Sweat rifle, the trigger is cool as all get out. The kids and wife  love shooting it and a great gun for hogs. The 35x39, is it a good round and is it for hunting or target.

The 35x39 is a wildcat here in the states, Its a 9mmx39 in Russia designed to use heavy 200 to 240 grain bullets in suppresed fire arms for armor penetration.

I plan on useing 180 or 200gr rounds for hunting deer, There are loads from about 900fps to close to or matching .35 rem numbers, I think It would make for a very versitile round here where I hunt.

I hope to get a load worked up for 240gr hardcast bullet lopeing along at 1900fps as a treestand load, Easy to shoot and deadly on deer.

Alas this isn't gonna happen soon as I've taken a fall from one of my stands and have broken my back spending time here at GBs is gonna be the best I can do for awhile.

AltLaw yep not something I would wish on anyone, But with the internet and good friends here at GBs the recovery time will be a little easier to deal with. I think I will recover well enuff to be in a ground blind by muzzle loader season.  I will probably need help getting one out of the woods should the good Lord grant me the luck to make a good shot.

Thanks alot for your concern its very encouaging to have friends with a positve attiude around.    Bob

Bob, one word: physical therapy.  Well, two words.

Don't blow off getting some rehab.  Just my 2 cents from neck injury.  Should have done it and have arthritis and bad posture as a result.

I just bought a 7.62x39 carbine as a result of reading up here on GBO.  I hope that you get a chance to shoot again soon.
