700 VTR
« on: January 27, 2008, 06:07:42 PM »
Do you have this rifle?
I am wondering about the new barrel?
If this will help reduce muzzle blast I might just get my daughter this gun.
She will not shoot our .243 because of the blast. Any comments on this gun would be great.
Can you get a muzzle reducer made to eliminate this problem on any caliber? We are looking at hearing protection for her in the field to help with flinching.
Thanks,
Willie

Willie, I apologize for rerouting to a thread that has discussions within but it may be able to help you. Check for the posts made by "jvs" as he has held one and knows more about them than anyone else here at the moment.

As for the muzzle brake, it will indeed cut down on recoil BUT will add many decibels when fired. I cannot speak for the actual VTR brake performance because it's New and there aren't any reviews on the net yet. But if they did it even half right, the recoil from those 3 smaller varmint calibers will be almost non existent  ;) Just be prepared for a bigger Boom  :o I want to hear reports on how it handles the .308win because that's the caliber I'd get it in. I shot a .308 that had a good brake on it and it had almost no recoil. There were no vents underneath so no dust and debris after shooting  ;) This VTR brake doesn't have anu underneath either so they won half the battle right there in my opinion. I'll have to ask jvs if he noticed any venting on the underside of the barrel to confirm....

And here is the thread I started a few weeks back but got buried. It is now a sticky so it'll always be on this 1st page.

It will now be the GB official VTR thread so keep checking back for relavant info.

**Yes you can get a muzzle brake installed on most rifles. If you want more info on some well known companies who offer this, we can start spitting out names.

If I remember correctly, there are no vents on the bottom of the barrel, only the top half.

And there is a thread in 'Bolt Actions' here in GBO that includes this product specifically and some people who have bought the VTR and may have shot it already.  I think the title is NEW REMMY HAS POTENTIAL (or something like that).

I thought one would have followed you home by now VLS.

Hey now, I just got 2  in the timespan of 27 hours  :D I need to get accessories for those which I can't really afford so getting another Remmy will have to wait until fall.

The friend who JUST got his 7600 wants one so it looks like I'll have the pleasure of trying one sooner than later. A cousin wants one as well so my chances are good. Both want it in .308 though, I told them not to wait or they may be waiting a while.

*Oh yeah, thanks for confirming the vent placement. I'll have to check the thread you mention as well.....
