Does anybody make ready-to-load 44 cast hollow-base bullets in .429/.430? Thanks in advance for info. Hunman55

Lloyd, I have a S&W 44Spec HE with oversize chamber mouths(452/453)-go figure. I thought maybe that a hollow base would expand to fill this and enter the forcing cone better. It's either this or trade it or sell it or maybe another cylinder, but I have too much money in this gun already. Thanks for your interest.Hunman55

if its truely that far off id be sending back to smith to get it fixed. With that much of a mismatch your probably wasting your time trying to compensate with bullets.

Those chamber mouths sound more like what I would expect for the 45 Long Colt!  No wonder you cannot get a good load worked up.

Surprising, from that era I would have expected them to be closer to 430.

You might have to get the barrel rebored to 45!

Good Luck.

I, too, am unaware of anyone molding HB 44's.

Lyman did make the Keith bullet mold available in HB but good luck finding one of those!

Thanks for your interest, guys. I'm still considering what to do. Does S&W still work on these older guns? I thought they only worked on guns of currant manufacture. Hunman55

No, I don't think S&W works on the prewar guns anymore.

Some of the revolversmiths might be able to help you.

Depending on where you are in the country we might be able to recommend someone.

Check out this forum: http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/540103904

Many good people over there, and they know more about Smith & Wessons that Smith & Wesson does.
