Will Bill Clinton Accept a Supreme Court Appointment?
« on: January 28, 2008, 12:08:38 PM »
Newsmax theoretically posed some interview questions to Hillary subsequent to her appearance on Tyra Banks show that was more of a campaign add than an interview.  One of the questions Newsmax commentator wanted to ask " Mrs. Clinton, will you pledge that as president you will never appoint to any federal court, including the U.S. Supreme Court, anyone who has had a law license suspended for unethical behavior?"   This is a very pertinent question.  Slick Willy had his law license suspended for perjury (lying under oath in a court case).  With a Democratic Congress, would Slick Willy get Congressional approval for the appointment?  You bet he would.  Hillary as president could appoint her husband to a position where he could interpret her administration's constitutionality with regard to her administrative policies.  This possible (probable) situation would stop my voting for her.  The precedent is not without substance; William Howard Taft served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1921-1930 after serving as President of the US from 1909-1913.  I wonder if this is the Clintons true end goals: to be appointed to the Supreme Court?

Now that is truly scary!  He could probably do more damage to our country from there than she could from the White House!

I don't see how that would be allowable in the first place because of the "personal" aspects of it.  Putting any family member in an office such as that is bound to have legal ramifications.

I hate to disappoint anyone, but there is no such restriction if the person is qualified.  Supreme Court justices have very little qualification restrictions as to becoming a judge.  Congress must approve the appointment but if we get a Demo Congress, what makes anyone think that Slick Willy would not be approved?  What personal aspect is involved as an ex President?  Just because he is married to a current one?  The same would apply if she had recommended him to NY to appointment to fill her Senate vacancy.  The concept is very possible.

There are 89655456875578 things (at last count) I'm more worried about than Bill joining the SCOTUS.  It's not going to happen, move on.

For the life of me I do not see why Slick Willy could not be appointed to the SCOTUS.  Unlikely, probably, but the potential for this exists if his wife becomes President.  That would be reason enough for me not to vote for her.  Yes, there are many other issues more important in my life, but I do not discount others that may influence or aggravate more of them.  I attempt to ensure I reduce my problems, rather than allow myself be inundated with more, by lack of complacency or ignorance of politics and law.  I then act accordingly so these potential problems do not happen in reality to the best of my ability.  No vote for Hitlary

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not voting for Hillary either, but you can be assured Bill would never be nominated for the SCOTUS.  It is a non-issue.  Be more worried that Bill would be appointed high ruler of Alpha Centauri than a Supreme Court justice.

I'd like very much to see him get that appointment assuming of course that he and hilary both get shipped off to there rather than staying here on earth. :o
