Siamese Mauser what cartridges could it be chambered for?

I am toying with the idea of customizing my Siamese Mauser.  I know you can do 45/70 but I was thinking about 405 Winchester, can it be done?  What other cartridges should I look at?

I have one in 45-70, and I've seen several in .405 at guns hows, so it can certainly be done.  I would think that you could rebarrel and chamber it for any rimmed cartridge with similar or smaller case size and pressure levels like the .444, 30-40 or 303 British.

The biggest problem is getting the new round to feed from the magazine. Reliably is the key word.

.35/.348 Ack Imp for one

I had Mr. Ackley, himself, do a rebore to .35/348 Win Ack Imp... Feeds o.k. I have loaded to standard commercial manual loads, STARTING LOADS, for .358 Norma Magnum without unacceptable or even interesting signs of pressure. (YOU work at YOUR OWN RISK!!!)  Got my rifle before ammo was available and no FFL was needed... Then, RCBS came out with form dies that would take the .45/70 case, I think, to either 8mm x 50mm R Siam or 8mm x 52mm R Siam ... Never heard much about the smaller rims of .303 or .30/40... With P14s out there, why? This rimmed brass is not strong, as much brass as a modern magnum "head." Beware... .38/56 (on .45/70 rim)WCF Ackley  Improved is an interesting all around gun for big game. The .348 was built on the same rim as the .50/110 buffalo gun rounds so I would think you could do the shorter ".50s" Sharps, Ballard, etc. As long as you don't want endless case life and don't over work the gun... Not a Mark V.... ENJOY... luck, happy trails.

.405 WCF is a long .303 Brit case (or .30/40 Krag). You can blow them out and seat the bullet out a bit.  Again, P14 is perfect...  And there is that .35 WCF that "died aborning.." Same case necked to .358.

Gents.....

Dave Scovill showed pics of a siamese mauser converted to .50 Alaskan in an article in Rifle or Handloader
Magazine. He would not shoot it because of the stock. Something about the style/shape scared him off.
I have a siamese mauser and contemplating something like that, with a short, 16.5 to 19 inches, so will
look into stock designs before I stock it.
It was a sharp looking piece though.

the best, no hassle cartridge to do a siameese mauser is the .350 rem mag.  Everything fits as is  just rebarrel.  bill439
