Recommended 140-150 grain soft point bullets
« on: July 02, 2003, 03:34:42 PM »
I am reloading a couple different calibers and want to use soft point bullets.  Here's what I've used:
Swedish 6.5X55mm:  (.264")140 grain Hornady SP Interlock #2630
.300 Savage (.308")150 grain Hornady SP Interlock #3031
.30-06 (.308") 150 grain Hornady Spire Point Interlock #3031

What do you recommend for these particular calibers for both hunting white-tail and punching paper.  Would the Hornady's work well or should I try others?  TIA.

Jim:

You'll get a lot of responses on this one!  Here's my :money:

While I really really prefer the Nosler Partitions for hunting, the Hornadys will do the job in most situations.  My .243 won't put three Hornadys closer together than 3" at 100 yards but shoots .5" with 85 grain Partitions.  My .270 seems to prefer the Hornadys, and that's what I'll probably use this fall.  My 25-06 doesn't care what I feed it, from 100 gr to 120, any brand, they are on the mark.  (I'm gonna "retire" it so I'll have an excuse to tinker with new calibers and rifles)!  Bottom line, I guess, is shoot whatever your rifle likes....   :D
