How much weight?
« on: July 02, 2003, 05:03:08 PM »
How much weight do I need on the deepwater end of my drowning cables for rats and beavers?  My idea for the rats was to pour concrete into 5" pvc forms with a eye-bolt in to one end and attach it with a quick link.  I'm just starting out and don't know but one thing.  110s will not only catch small animals, but also detain a 220lb dummy for 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get that darn thing of his hand with just one hand to do it with.

564, the amount of weight for beaver depends on the type of bottom.A hard or solid bottom takes more weight than a mucky or muddy bottom.Best bet is to haul some empty sacks with and fill with rocks and such at the site.Experiment a bit with your weights--a big beaver on a solid bottom takes a good heavy weight.
Your pvc should do alright with rats--also invest in a safety gripper, helps keep your hands --trap free. Tom

I agree with the rat weights but , myself , I like disposable stakes for beaver . They are quick , light weight and they dont pullout .
If an animal activist is being mauled by a bear should we stop it , or , " let nature take its course?"
