It was inevitable. From a a liability standpoint they had to do it like everyone else. Surprised it took so long.  As long as the lock doesn't get in the way, it makes no big difference to me. The "Smart Gun" crap is next.

I don't know about doomed, but I do know the designs are a bit dated compared to some of the new pistols on the market.

Are all glocks being made like this now? Haven't they heard they saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

The "ILS" (Inter Lock System)... has been an option for quite a few years now.

Yes, the thing sticks out when it is LOCKED. Can't shoot it anyway, so who cares if it sticks out? It is designed to remind you it is locked.

I have never heard of a failure of the system, and GLOCK can make new keys if one is lost.

It is an option, and not mandatory... unless you have some sort of state law requiring it, which would make it yuor state's fault and not GLOCK's.

It's good to hear that it's still an option. It doesn't sound like I'd be interested in another Glock with the lock.
BTW-GSD17, I noticed you don't have a Model 36 in your list. WHY?

Indeed.  As to the locks - I haven't bought a brand new gun in a while (msot of my new toys are used), but my 870 Express has one.  I pretty much ignored it and tossed away the key.  When I was bored one day though I discovered that the lock can be engaged (but not disengaged) but just sticking in a small screwdriver and turning it.

I was able to get it back off by dissassembling the trigger group, but it was a hassle for sure.  As long as Glock's lock system will generally stay permanently off if the key is gone though, then I don't mind too much.  Still more moving parts that aren't needed though.

I don't own a gun with a lock on it, and proably never will, but if I had one, I'd simply leave it unlocked and throw away the key. There are no safe or dangerous guns, and the best safety feature resides between our ears. That said, I think that the Glock will continue to do well, as it has for many years. It is simply too good to die.

As stated, the ILS was introduced at SHOT in '03. I did see one 3-4 yrs ago, it's just to keep the demtards
all warm and fuzzy feeling when they try to rob you knowing it will give them just about enough time so
they can get away while you are looking for the key....

Anyone stupid enough to use a key to lock the gun they keep for self defense use is likely too stupid to use it anyway. A gun for self defense by definition MUST be in a ready to use instantly mode or it's not ready for self defense use. Folks who'd do that might as well do as they do on TV and keep a baseball bat or golf club handy instead.

I will agree with that.  A totally safe gun is like a safe butcher knive.  You can let your child play with it since it's completely useless for its intended purpose.

Okay, does someone have a picture of the lock they are talking about?  Unless it's a new flip up safety like the after market on that I have seen, (slide lock safety) which I do not feel is a bad thing.  With some people that just can't keep their fingers off the trigger, you just can't put enough safeties on.

BTW - Glock still hasn't gone under yet.   ::)

Dang must be such a small issue that I can't even see it in the pictures, and when handling some new Glocks yesterday I still hadn't noticed anything.

Doomed?  I think not

So, how long have you been experiencing these feelings of doom?

That lock is not new.  Been around for awhile.  It's an option.  Maybe some states require it?  I just bought two new Glock 22s in MS last month and they don't have it as well and neither did all the other model Glocks I looked at in the store.

As far as Glock being doomed.  Quite a few others will go down before they do.  They can't make them fast enough to keep up with worldwide demand.

I quit carrying a 1911 after over 30 years, and went and bought a new Glock 21 with night sights. 14 rounds makes more sense than 8 nowadays. It's my third one in the last 20 years. It looks the same as the other two. Hmmmm. Can anyone tell me where the lock is? I used to keep my Armorer cert up with them (Glock), but alas when I retired, the Dept. doesn't pay my schools anymore so I am at a loss.
Now where do you suppose that lock on this new 21 is? ;D

keep laughing, you dont build something that cost over a million dollars to design, and institute it with out a reason. See the writing on the wall.  Smith sold out, and glock will soon.  To any of you that have seen this lock design and actually messed with it you know what i mean.  Great gun stupid concept.   Keep Lauging, you will see
