Beretta Neo Vs Walther P22?

With my local gunshop closing, I'm going to try to make the most out of it I can.  Everything in house is 15% off.  Since I have most centerfire covered, and you can never have too many .22s..I was looking into getting a couple more things while I can.  I have read that the Beretta Neo is more a plinker than an accurate gun.  I just purchased a Buckmark, so I got that bill filled.  Now, I'd like to find something I can blow rounds through. 

They have a Neo there that would go out the door for 220+Tax, new.  I love the look of this gun, and the feel is amazing.  The P22 is a very nice looking gun as well.  The "tactical" look is very nice, and they seem to have worked out the problems with jamming and magazine feed, etc.  That gun is a bit more, sitting right around 300..it's the two tone version, green/black.  Comes with a lazer site mounted under the barrel. 

Both guns would be just something extra to have.  I feel like I have to buy some stuff from this place as I got my first new gun from them, as well as about 20-30 other purchases through the years.  I was planning on buying my sons first gun from them when he got up there in years, but they won't be around for that : /

I would go with the Beretta Neo  because the p22's seem cheap and flimsy to me i was handling one at the sportsmens wharehouse and it had the picatinny rail mounted scope rail and factory optics on it with very little effort one could flex it all over the place and yes all of the mouning screws were tight i had the counter person check them because i was very interested in buying it up to that point anyone could clearly see that it was the frame it self was flexing . superdown

Wow! That would be a puzzler for me too, as I wouldn't want either one. But if I had to buy one or the other, I'd go for cheap and cut my losses. The Neos would be my choice of the two. IMO, I would think the laser on the Walther would be next to useless outdoors, and only slightly better indoors.

If you buy either you will shoot it once and put it back in your safe. Next time you want to shoot you will grab that Buckmark that you already have.

I love my neos...it will eat anything reliably. It's MUCH less picky than the P22.

I have the 6" inox, and a spare 4.5" barrel...I prefer the 6" for both look and feel. Accuracy between the two is quite similar.

I'm not sure where so many complain about the Neos' accuracy. Mine will do sub 1" at 25yds with open sights, using a rolled up jacket as a rest. I'm sure it'd do MUCH better with a good rest and optics.

At 25yds I can hit my 3" spinner 10 for 10 strong hand supported (no rest, open sights).
It'll do everything my MKII will do.

I strongly believe the NEOS is one of the best "bang for the buck" handguns out there...once you get past the looks.

The p22 is cheap, finicky, and much less accurate...but a cool looking, fun plinker.

FWIW, I paid $250 OTD for my 6" stainless Neos.

I have the neos and like it a lot. Mags are only 10 bucks  and it shoots as good as my mkII. Cleaning is a snap as well.

I have never shot the Neos but I have shot the p22 and I would pick almost anything over it. At about 7 yards it could barely hold within a paper plate minute of angle. Totally worthless! That was with the extended barrel too.

And has a poor reputation for reliability...lots of failures to feed, and lots of brass being thrown at the shooter. It seems very few are lucky enough to get a good, reliable shooter NIB...most have a lot of tweaking to get it right....and they are still picky about what you feed 'em.

Meanwhile, most sing praises to beretta for supreme reliability with the Neos.
Not to mention the Neos has the option for 6 or 7.5" barrels...which means more velocity/energy, and the potential for better accuracy. The neos also has a scope rail integrated, if that is something you are considering.

If all you care about is the "cool factor" by all means, choose the P22.
But if you want something reliable, well built, and cheaper go for the Neos.

I love my neos. I just ordered a second barrel (not have 4.5" and 6") and 3 spare magazines making for 5 total.
Can you get NEW factory mags for the P22 for $10? You can with the neos!

I received the Neos for christmas.  I love it.  I have shot the P22 and I really liked it, it looks cool and was fun to shoot, but after shooting the Neos for a couple of months there is no comparison.   The first day out I went through 700 rounds of cheap ammo with out one misfire or feeding problem. The Neos is a snap to clean, add accessories, and change barrels. Now talk about making a cool looking gun check out the accessories for the Neos on the Beretta website.

Search google (or better, rimfirecentral.com) for P22's with cracked slides..you'll find a LOT of 'em because of the low quality metal used. You'll find plenty of people complaining about jamming, and sending brass into the shooters face.

On the flip, you don't find much in terms of complaints for the Neos...it is a very reliable piece. I've had mine for a few days short of one month, and have already bought several accessories. I'm right at 1,100 rounds fired so far. It was cleaned once between having all those rounds fired. Never had a jam, misfeed, or any other problem.

Here's my neos....


Factory U22 Neos INOX with 6" barrel.
Accessories include a 4.5" Inox barrel and BSA red dot (for fiance), spare Inox slide assembly, and three additional factory magazines for a total of five. I also ordered a few basic spare parts just in case (recoil springs, magazine parts, etc.) to keep the gun functioning. I'm not anticipating any failures, as this pistol seems pretty well made, but I plan to shoot at LEAST 15,000 rounds through it this year and want to be ready for anything. With that much use, ANY firearm should have it's recoil spring replaced as least once to help save some stress on the slide and frame.

I just need a better case to hold it all!
