Big Game Treestands® The Ranger Ladder Stand

Big Game Treestands® The Ranger Ladder Stand - Model CR3705

Anyone familiar with this tree stand or own one?  I'm starting to look for a new tree stand before next season.  I have about $120 saved up in Bass Pro credit card points with which to purchase one!  ;D  In that range, I've narrowed it down to this stand and a Gorilla Kong hang-on stand.  Both are getting good reviews but this Ranger Ladder stand is getting slightly better ones and I like the convenience of a ladder stand as opposed to a hang-on.  The only advantage that I see to a hang-on (for me) is that I can go higher than 15 ft if I chose...and I guess it may be a little stealthier.

Anyway, this is what the Bass Pro description is of the Ranger Ladder stand:

Quote
A comfortable ladder stand with a comfortable price! Sit all day thanks to revolutionary seat cushion design using Flex-Core™ technology. A foam core sandwiched between durable fabric with bungee cord supports gives you a firm, yet flexible seat with no bars or grates to sit on. Steel construction. Secures to tree with with a 1'' ratchet-strap and two 1'' stabilizer straps. Platform: 18'' x 13''. Seat: 20'' x 14''. Height: 14' to platform, 15' to seat. Weight: 52 lbs.

Any feedback?  It looks very comfortable.  I can get one of these essentially free.  The only cost would be opportunity cost! (for you economics people)  ;D

My 2 problems I see with this stand is there isn't any sides to this stand to hang camo netting on for concealment and the seat isn't metal and after it seats out in the weather for a while if it will become brittle.  I heard about this happening with another stand seems like the cloth seat would also be noisy after it set outside for awhile. Just my opinion.

Good point on the seat...hadn't really thought about that part of it.  I wonder if it's detachable at all.  The no sides thing kind of worries me.  I've been spoiled by the two person ladder stand that I bought off of you...with side rails all the way around.  I don't really want to dish out $200 though.  I'd definitely be wearing a harness and I think I might be able to rig something up for the camo part.  While the camo wouldn't be 100% necessary, I'd still like to have it.  Haven't made up my mind yet about anything though.

check out Dicks sporting goods for the two person stands I think that they are much safer of course and you could take your wife with you.

I forgot to mention that the seat on that stand if it rained would get wet and you would have to have something dry to sit on where as metal it will drain off better.

Yeah right, my wife wanting to go hunting with me?  That will NEVER happen!

And I have to stick with Bass Pro on the tree stand...that's where my credit card points are.  Since the wife doesn't understand guns and hunting, that means I don't get to spend as much money...she thinks it's a waste.  If I use the credit card points, I'm good.

IF she did ever want to come hunting, I still have the other two person stand.  I plan on putting two or three up this year.  Probably two this year and three next year.  The third will probably be a climber so that I can take it to other places if need be.

JUNK!! Don't buy one. I bought a 2 man stand made by Big Game treestands a while back and it said it would handle 500lbs. I weight 220 and my son is around 150 and it wouldn't hold me. I wasted $150 on it. I had to weld and replace bolts to make the stand work for one person. I could have bought a good Summit treestand for the price and the cash I put into it. Buyer Beware of this treestand its not safe.

Another question is a 13x18 in. platform? I have an older ladder stand with a small platform like that and believe me it is a pita! It is still in use but I am considering replacement for that reason alone, as my large boots hardly have room on it sitting let alone standing...its not a stand that I like to stand up in alot lets put it that way.
