.222 from .224 diam.
« on: January 31, 2008, 05:19:00 AM »
Oh boy fellas here's a winner for ya. Ok first off have a romanian ak variant and I know ammo is readily availible, but its all steel cased ammunition, last thursday I came across a comany who is making brass for it the caliber is 5.45x39 and no the case head diam is 391 (thats on the steel cases) and buffalo ammunition(thats the company making the brass)is using 30 reminton brass to make the 5.45x39, ok I'm real familiar in making different brass out of others, but here's the interesting thing the bullet pulled from the military steel cases mics out to a true .222, thats .002 under .224 diam (5.56). so do ya think the .224's can be sized down in a sizer die, sur ewould be nice to shoot it with out the worry of nasty corrosive ammo. keving.

I will get back to this later during the week making the sizr right now, just made the dies for working the brass  tell ya how it goes. just another fun idea that drives me nuts.

.224s can be reduced to .222, but before you do that, mic your barrel. That military fodder may be for battle conditions where dirt/powder residue  is everywhere. ( 'copper' jacketed bullets usually can be successfully reduced by .006 without distortion). If it turns out that .222 IS the needed diameter, then your reloading seating die will need tweaked, too. Good luck.
