Just a simple question for you guy's with 309' SSK or rechamber's.What kind of velocity are you getting with 125,135,150,and 165gr bullet's.I'm just trying to see if my 30/30 IMP is close to the same vel :D

I don't know about the 30-30 AI except what I have read on another forum but it seems a little better than the reg 30-30. I shoot the 309JDJ in a 14" barrel. I have never shot the 125 or 135 thinking they might vaporize.  :eek: I do shoot the 150 grn Nosler Ballistic tips for hunting and shoot the 150grn SP for fireforming. The 150BT is running 2350-2360 and it still screaming at 200yds. I tried the 165grn Nosler BT for working up an elk load and they were going about 2300-2310 w/close to max load according to JDJ. It was a handfull. I took a whitetail doe (140lb) at 235yds last fall w/ the 150grn Nosler Ballistic Tip and she went legs up after spinning and going about 5 steps. Very good expansion it looked like with a .50 piece size hole on exit.

Max velocity in my barrel is:

125g  2630fps
150g  2510fps
165g  2405fps

These are my absolute max developed in 90ยบ for a 14" SSK barrel.  My hunting loads are 50-100fps slower.

Has anybody worked up a 309 JDJ load at Encore pressures?  Seems to me that it would be the logicial choice between 308 and 300 win Mag.  I don't like the sound of 70 gr of 4350, PJ.

 :) OK What don't you like about 70grs of 4350 it pushes the 180's to 2680fps.What's not to like about that!!!! Pluse you don't have to buy custom dies or fireform.And I can buy my ammo at Bi-Mart :)

I think the Contender would Blow-up!!! :) It just can't handle Encore pressures.

I agree about the stock dies and being able to buy ammo most anyplace.  

Just seems to me as if a third more powder for 300 fps is not a good trade off.  A 300 Win Mag in a 15 inch barrel has to be a handful and if you have a muzzel break it must move cement blocks at the firing line.  

With your long case you are trying to burn 70 grains of a slow powder in 12.3 inches of barrel. That's 0.869 cubic inches of barrel and .441 cubic inches of powder,  50%, can't be done.

I have 30 Alaskan dies, so making a 308AI X 444 does not involve new custom dies.

JD Jones claims great things for his 30-06 JDJ, case capacity for my proposal is about the same.

Bottom line:  I am looking for information from someone who has loaded 309JDJ in an Encore at Encore pressure.  What part of ENCORE don't you understand. :?

I for one didn't have any problem with the question as posted by bsekf.   I understood he was talking about the 309JDJ in an Encore up front, if for no other reason than because he referenced it along with the 308 and 300 WM - both also out of range for the Contender frame.   (I'm on my 2nd 309JDJ Contender barrel, but have no experience with it on the Encore frame... so was also waiting to see if someone chimmed in who did).  

Its hard sometimes to understand posts completely and as meant by the one posting it - poor grammar, bad spelling, incomplete sentences and thoughts assumed known and so left out (not necessarily any of these in this case).   All of these are just some of the shortcomings of the written word only to decipher from on the Internet.   Had the question been asked in person it most likely would not have left any doubt in anyones mind present what he was asking.    Please make some allowances, and don't turn this into a pissing contest gentlemen.

Just as I thought there is no real difference between the two with the 165's and under. I would like to thank all that posted it's nice to know that I'm running my 14" Competitor as fast with alot less powder and less muzzle flash than the 309 all with no preasure signs.
