Ammo is just started
« on: January 31, 2008, 01:49:35 PM »
I have a good friend that works at a gun shop and he told me today that the price of ammo is going to go through the roof this year.  SOME MY DOUBLE IN PRICE THE NEXT 6 MONTHS.

I reload and even that is getting tough.

Base Metals have risen.  The price of scrap metals allows people to make a living dealing in them.  The Anit-Gunners & Enviornmentalists are hard at work grabbing at your guns any way they can.  Add in the Sin Tax that a certain section of the political spectrum wants to add to your second amendment rights, and it's no wonder the price of Ammo is going up.  They will tax gun owners out of existence.

And the Silent Majority just sits there and lets it happen.  Wait until Flip-floppers McCain, Obama or Clinton is in office.  You ain't seen nothing yet.

They came for and captured Tobacco.  Guns are next.  Then it will be your Beer or Wine.

I was going to try and answer you without the possibility of hurting your feelings, but you are either looking for a debate with a stance from the Liberal way of denying that a problem exists, while knowing full well there is a movement to tax and legislate firearms and its components from social existance, from someone who is a Conservative.

I will suffice it to say that you are ignorant of the facts of Politics in America, and it ain't gonna work with me.  Nor will it work for the majority of the visitors of this website.

I'm probably much more into politics than you are. I'm smart enough to know when the free market is driving prices instead of some BUGABOO 'it's all a sinister plan" conspiracy theory. You must be a Ron Paul supporter ::)

Yes I know Even the primers and the powder is getting hard to reach. 1 pound  of powder is almost $15.00  and the primers used to cost about .50 now they are 2.50 per 100

 Where are you buying powder?

As best I've seen rifle powders are up to around $23 a can

Thanks for steering things back to the listed topic.  These kinds of topics usually lead to personal attacks and insults.  Let's try to be respectful of each others' beliefs.  It's okay to disagree, but let's just limit it to that.

Well, I just got back from the local Bass Pro.  Seems that Big Green has already raised the prices on their ammo.  I admit, I haven't bought any ammo for a couple of months, so I'm not up to date on prices.  BUT, the regular green/yellow box of Core-lokts were priced between $24.99-$33.99, depending on the caliber.  Most shocking to me was the 80gr .243 at $33.99.  This isn't even a premium bullet.  The Accu-tips and Ultra's were all pushing the $35-$40 mark.  Maybe that's why they were having a 10% off sale.  Most of the local MART type stores in my area have the core-lokt stuff for $19.99-$24.99.

I didn't pay prices like that for Hornady Custom ammo back in November.  The Federal and Hornady ammo prices seemed about where they were a couple of months ago.  Leverevolution ran from $19.99-$29.99 (I think) depending on the caliber.  I bought a couple boxes of the 30-30 back in November for $18.99 at a local shop.

Muzzleloader bullet/sabot packs seemed to be the same price as before the season started.

Boy I am glad I have started reloading. Thant is why I really needed to get into it because factory was costing me $30.00 a box for Hornady 58 grain 243 VMAX. A day at the range was costing near a $100.00. I have been watching the cost of componets and they have gone up also. Dale

I started buying extra ammo and reloading components about 2 years ago, when the warning signals were first being presented about future ammo prices.   Whenever I went into a store, I walked out with a box of ammo besides whatever I went in for.  At that time, columns said the average price of ammo, in the future, will be NOT LESS than $40-$50 per box common calibers.  Higher for other calibers.  Add in all of those Sin Taxes and this is what you get.

So I guess when I got .35 Rem for $12.99, .30-30 for $6.99, .30-06 for $9.99 and .308 for $8.99, I got a good deal especially when I ordered it by the case last summer.   I also loaded up on Powder for an average of $16.99 a pound, along with the other components... cheap.

I'll never have to buy another bullet or component as long as I live.

Not unless they outlaw the use of Lead.  Which is also coming.

Thats what I've been doing last couple years too. I still buy some bullets now, but mostly online as the local shops allready raised prices. And they are going nowhere but up from now on.

The idea of those Sin Taxes for Tobacco, Firearms and Alcohol is not a recent thing.  It all started with the 'Bubba' Clinton administration.  And with 'Bimbo' Clinton knocking at the door, the possibilities are endless as to where the price of tobacco, ammo and alcohol can go.

Wait a sec here.  Show me ONE sin tax on the federal level.  All sins taxes are on the state level so let's make sure we blame the right people.  I don't pay any taxes on reloading stuff cause a mail order.  If you are paying sin taxes on ammo then you should go to your city and state and find out why or better yet mail order.

I know there has not been any tax increase in my area these prices are just going up.  I can deal with price increase over say 24 months but to go up 50 percent in 6 months!!!

I just bought a box of 50 22lr this morning at the local Wally World. I didn't notice it at the time (bought other things), but the shelf had them marked for $1.62. When I got home and looked at the receipt they were $3.12.

Winchester White Box 9mm ammo has gone up a good bit too.  IIRC, the last time I had bought a 100 pack it was at around $11, and last weekend it was up to $16.  A box of .45 ACP is up to $18 per box.

I'm not even sure I'm going to bother shooting my centerfire rifles outside of hunting season anymore.  I've got enough reloading components and existing ammo to hunt for the rest of my life, but it would be nice to shoot them outside of that sometimes . . . :(

Wait a sec here.  Show me ONE sin tax on the federal level.  All sins taxes are on the state level so let's make sure we blame the right people.

If you read my post, which stated that guns and alcohol are NEXT, You should realize that I don't believe that Sin Taxes are here yet on the Federal Level for ammo.  And that I don't see much promise other wise from McCain, Obama or Bimbo Clinton.

What the Federal Gov't does is make it ok for States to tax the crap out of you for items they believe are bad for you, which is what brought a pack of butts from around $1.50 to over $5.40 in some places.  A practice that started with Bubba Clinton.  A tax which is supposedly put in state accounts for the smokers who may eventually become ill and would be in need of hospital treatment in the future.

So even if I really do believe that the cost of ammo is high right now because of the rise in prices of the metals used, which it is, the opportunity of those prices to shoot up to unbelievable levels with sin tax accounts being set up for states which make those ammo prices too high for the average guy.

Hence the anti's win on guns and then the Booze is next.  Then the 3 Evil Sisters will have been roped and hog tied, with you holding the tab.

Have you seen the price of scrap cooper lately.  There has been a rash of utility company and laundromat burglaries were the only thing taken is copper!   Ya things are going up.
I live in Kaliforniastan I know about "sin taxes".  Oakland put a reputable gun shop out of business with a 40% tax on firearms and ammo.  They claimed they were not trying to put Siegals out of business but Siegals was the only gun shop in Oakland!  To fight City Hall would have cost them 4 times their annual profit!  Where was the NRA and California Rifle and Pistol Assoc?  I have no faith in the politicians,  justice system or associations I must belong to.
This post belongs in a general forum or political forum.  It effects all firearms not just bolt action rifles.
