Letting Off Fireing Pin??

Is this a good habit to get into? Slowly closeing the bolt while pulling the trigger to let off the tension on the spring. Not dry fireing the pin but just slowly letting it off. Good idea or bad??

I do it too. Not that dry firing does any "damage".

I do that on all my bolt rifles. I dry fire the rest of the centerfires(& shotguns) & use 'snap-caps' in a 22. It may not matter much but some sit in the safe a long time between uses.

It's always been a habit of mine but I've always wondering if it did more damage than good.
