CZ .22 Hornet loads
« on: February 02, 2008, 06:08:54 AM »
My CZ 527 American has been ordered along with .22 Hornet dies.  Anyone have any favorite .22 Hornet loads that you like?

Thanks.  I'll give it a try.  I'm a big fan of Hornady bullets.

Looks like a couple to try.  I'm not as interested in high speed as in accuracy.  The reason I went with the Hornet instead of the high speed rounds like .22-250 is that I want enough groundhog left for a meal and hope to save some of the predator fur in season.  Also, in my area of Ohio shots will seldom be beyond 100 yards and probably closer.

Star1pup,
You made a great choice in the Hornet. Out to 125 yards mine is absolutely deadly.
I don't have a CZ. Mine is a H&R single shot. I don't think it matters though. One
of the things I like most about the Hornet is how small the amount of powder it
takes to load it. Less than 1/2 of what a 223 takes. It should take those chucks
no problem. I shot this 100 yard 3 shot group with my Hornet last week.

The 40 gr V Max is to long to feed in the CZ repeater.  You will have to single load it taking away the repeater function of the CZ.

Look towards traditional Hornet bullets.  Also the 40 V Max does not fragment well at Hornet speeds in all but close range.  It is however very accurate in Hornets.  The Hornady 45 gr SP  Hornet bullet may also be to long for your clip.

33,35 grain Hornet bullets and also 40 & 45 grain Varminter SP Hornet bullets would be better choices in your repeater.

The rule of thumb for Hornet reloading is.

Non hot small rifle primers such as the CCI 400 & Rem. 6.5
Lil Gun for 40 and heavier bullets.
H110 / Win. 296 for the lighter stuff.
Neck size, crimp if capable.

Most CZ Hornet shooters/reloaders report the 35 V Max and 40 Gr Varminter as very, very accurate.

IMO- The European chambers are tighter in Hornet and from what I have seen the CZ Hornet takes second seat to no other Hornet of any price in accuracy, reliable function.

Good choice........
