.204 Ruger and Winchester .34 gr Hollow points
« on: February 03, 2008, 04:28:54 AM »
Hey there,

I just picked up my 700 SPS Varmint  in .204 Ruger this week, going out next weekend to sight it in.  I have boxes of both 32 and 40 gr. Hornady's to test.  I was thinking of trying the Winchester 34 grs. At this time it will be only factory ammo I shoot.  Anyone tried this round and what were the results?

Had a friend try them in his .204. They didn`t do bad for factory ammo. It`s been a while since we shot them, and I forget what the groups were, and since these were at his house through his gun I did not put them in my book, but you might want to try a box if you shoot factory ammo. I don`t think you can get the bullets, but I remember thinking I would like to play with them at the time.

I have shot a few boxes of them, and actually did very well....my CZ 204 is only a yr old.....so I have not shot a ton of cartridges out of it......I am partial to the Hornady 32 grain V max.....but I saw a message here about a place in Montana, and I ordered some from there.....The Hunting Shack......they sell HMS ammo, and it is also a 32 grain V Max....I have shot it , and it performs like the Hornady , or pretty close.   They also had pretty good prices ...so it made even more sense for me.   I guess I'd like to think with my wallet....but in the end...the gun does ail the thinking...if the gun does not like the round....I keep looking...so far I am pleased.

My CZ shoots the 40gr very well.
