Accessory Barrel storage ??
« on: February 03, 2008, 02:31:02 PM »
I have all of these handi barrels that are just leaning in my safe.  Surely with all of the creative minds on this forum, someone has come up with a rack for them or some ingenious method of storing them?   They keep falling down, as they don't balance well with scopes attached.  I'm going to build something, and need ideas.

Put em on their own frame, that's the best I've come up with!!  ;D I used to store 4 of em in double gun case, that's the most extra barrels I've ever had at one time.

Technically(at least in Canuckistan), barrels and scopes don't have to be locked-up. I store some of my rifles, less breech blocks, under my bed in a Rubber-Maid container.

i have come up with a way that works for me. take a 1 inch diameter dowel rod about 6 inches long and drill a 1/4 inch hole through the middle. into that hole glue a 1/4 inch dowel rod about 3 feet long. when you are done it will look like a wooden cleaning rod. slide that in from the breech end through the barrel and you can store them upright without the scope hitting the ground. the 1/4 inch rods work well for .30 cals and up, you can get smaller diameter rods or sand down the 1/4 inch rods for smaller calibers. ill have to get some pics of mine to post to show you how they really look.

hey me and my buddy were just talking about this.  we thought about putting a rack on the side of the gun cabinet.  some thing like a poolstick rack .    i have to think about the top board . how to cut the openings to put the barrel with scope on it . something like a Nike swoosh that would let the barrel lean a little bit so not to fall out . still thinking about it.  i think they have some poolstick racks at Ollie's cheap might have to go look at them just my 2 cents

Buy more frames. :D But to be serious I haven't found out a good way to store any barrels yet. I have tried everything I could think of and settled on something similar to Ron's.

That's sort of where I was going with the idea.  I was thinking about a bar across the top that would close the slots and could be either hinged to the side, or slide out of the way.

Or if you wanted to hang them from a wall you could just use 2 flat boards 1/2"x2"xhowever long ya wanted and just stick dowels in them and attach to wall spaced at a happy width. or you could use same idea and get fancy with router and wood lathe. Kurt
