I have to update the list.

I have added an 1894 CL in .25-20 and another 1894 Cowboy this is a 24 inch .38/.357. I was lucky to get it.

Marlin XLR 45-70 added a blued 3x9x40 B&L scope & a wide Black Latigo  Sling from Brownells(have them on all of my rifles).I bought a used Marlin 30-30  & couldn't come close to a 100 yard target so I took it back to the shop & bought a Rem 788 in 243 for my son.Marlin Glenfield  22LR 18 shots .

Hey guys!!

I'm a brand new Marlin fan!!! Well not really my first rifle was an old marlin golden 60, and boy was she accurate.  I've always wanted a 30/30 marlin.  I drove 400 miles round trip to buy a 336W with see-through cheap tasco scope/rings and a sling for $275.  Did I get Hosed?  This rifle feels real nice in my hands.  I can't wait to shoot it tomorrow.  I think I might be hooked.

Let us know how it shoots.  With see through rings it is harder for most people to shoot good groups.  Often your head is off of the stock to get it aligned with the scope, and it is likely in a little different place each time.  If it doesn't shoot consistently let us know and we can help.

$275 for the bare rifle is still a good buy.  Enjoy your Marlin.  They are wonderful guns.

I got the lever gun bug late....only have one Marlin - a SS Guide Gun.  Its great, but my other uses (or excuses) are not in line with most of the Marlin lineup so I have a variety of brands and types.

Just one. Don't know what model. My first rifle. When it's locked & loaded the bolt isn't exposed.Typed the serial # in on some web and it said "manufactured before 1888".Is that possible?
Shattered the firing pin the winter of '48-49' ,an uncle made another and it's been fine ever since.Never use the sights, just bring'er up,look at the deer, hits where I'm looking.

Don't know what model? Try posting a question at MarlinOwners (Marlin Collector's Forum)..... there's some very knowledgable people here... sign up and post a pic and ask some questions....people are very friendly there. Here's the link....
http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/index.php?board=12.0

Older Marlins have serial #'s with records that are chaotic as all models were numbered in a single serial number range, and numbers were often duplicated, and the dates recorded seem to be shipping dates, not dates of manufacture. Probably going to be hard to date your rifle, but give the MarlinOwners link above a try and post a pic there. I'm sure one of the old timers will give you some info on it.

Similar to the sporting carbine (336SC) but with a 24" barrel with no pistol grip cap (on those that I've seen anyway)
