375 H&H
« on: February 07, 2008, 04:15:23 AM »
I like the looks of the remington 798 safari but do you think its worth waiting for the winchester model 70 . I dont see any 375 H&H guns in 2008 but i am sure it wont be to long before they start manufacturing  them again. What do you guys thing  798 or 70 I am leaning towards waiting for the winchester model 70. And also how would you stack up the CZ550 safari mag against the remington.

Based on what I've seen of the recent CZ550's and the Rem 798's, and handling both, I'd take the CZ over the Remington, even at twice the price.  CZ quality is going up, Remington is going down, IMHO.  I bought my first 550 a couple of months ago and have been exceedingly pleased with it.

As a matter of fact, I'd take the CZ over the Win 70 .375's that I've seen, that were built in the last 5 or 6 years.

I looked at the CZ and the Remington 798 and I liked the feel of the CZ much better.  The only concern I would have is that some of the CZ Safari mags were splitting stocks.  I decided to wait a while and make sure they resolved the stock issue before I lay down any$$.  Only problem with waiting is that the price has been going up.

Are we talking about the 798 safari that you have handled  or the standard 798. Also as far as i know all CZ 550's  from 375 and up now have two crossbolts in the stock to fix the splitting problem i would also think that quality control would be a great improvement at the FN plant where the 70's will be coming out of.
