Used a 10" barrel Contender in 22 mag several years ago for small game. Still shoot the 22 mag. in revolvers and a single shot handgun for small game, but traded the Contender barrel for a different caliber. Was using a 22 Hornet barrel instead, and the 22 mag  barrel would only group well with one brand and bullet weight of ammo. The ammo it liked would group just under an inch at 50 yards with a 2 power scope on the gun. The 22 mag is deadly on anything from the size of a racoon down if you do your part. It is not my first choice but I have killed coyotes with the 22 mag when it was all I had and the shot was reasonable. Why do you ask?

Yes I have for about twenty years or so... it does a good job on small game, one shot kills are the norm... lots of folks chose the 22 lr over the mag.. I do not.. I did eventually get a LR barrel last year and sighted it in with shorts first ... scoped and with shorts it is pretty cool and quiet... will try cb subsonics and some cci minimags this summer.. I just ordered a single six 22 mag/LR and will likely hunt with it some too... but the mag contender scoped is very potent on squirrels and rabbits out to 70 yards with a good rest.. I just jam it against a tree for shorter shots in the area of the flat side of the trigger area.. and it does not move .. and I most often get my game... but I do not kill a ton of squirrels, I just like to kill a few in a sporting way..another post had a good long discussion on LR vs Mag.. the mag was in the minority, with the idea that the LR was enough... I am not a very good shot cause i wound too many with the LR and love the one shot kills of the mag..
that is just one coonasses opinion... worth every cent it cost you.

Well I plan to.I just shot my new to me .22 mag. barrel that I bought from the classifieds here and I got a half inch group at 25 yds. I put a Weaver 2X on top of the 12" T/C Custom Shop barrel and was useing CCI MaxiMags.Looks like a keeper for groundhogs and squirrels.

A .22 mag. was my first long range groundhog gun. I got my share of them out to 150 yrds. and a few farther. I put a pile of ammo thorough that little rifle. It`s a real good round for game up to fox size.

 Hi "Ratgunner"...

Keep us posted on how you like the .22 mag. from the Contender. I'm thinking of getting a .22 mag barrel in either 10" or 12" bull flavor for my G2, mostly for woodchucks and coyotes. Am figuring a range limit of maybe 80yds, but that's just a guess. It would be a "2nd choice" to the Hornet barrel I already have.

 Hi "Catfish"...

I know the rifles are often good to 125 yds. or a wee dram more. Had a Mossberg "Chuckster" years ago that accounted for a trainload of pasture poodles.

 Thanks !

you gonna like that gun barrel for sure.... I tried a 2 power and a 4 power scope on it and liked the 2 power better for the occasional close shot and the 4 power for the longer shots...
for my level of expertise with the higher power scopes I actually do better with the 2 power... I can shoot far with the 2 power better than I can shoot at ten yards moving with a 4 power... did not put a 2-7 on it which would be super ... did put that on another gun and was impressed close and far and moving etc. ... was surprised that with my level of skill (low) and the gun on 7 it was still a bit tough to score as it is so tuff to keep within an 8 inch circle at distance... harder than I thought...
but I did not practice enough yet to get super good...yet... missed a squirrel on 4 power at about ten yards...
