130 Grain Barnes X Bullet in .308"
« on: February 07, 2008, 02:03:39 PM »
Has anyone had any experience, good bad or indifferent, with the .308"  Barnes 130 Grain all copper TSX bullet in any round?

Would be interested in hearing your experience on the range  and in the game fields.

I read an article somewhere of a rep from Barnes using these in Africa with a 300WM, at something like 3300-3400fps.  They shot quite a few animals of all sizes, including Kudu etc, and I do not remember tham recovering ANY of the bullets.

No personal experience though!
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

I don't shoot Barnes bullets I found they put alot more copper inside your barrel. You know hard to clean.

I load the 100 gr. TSX using IMR 4350 powder for my Browning A-Bolt 25 WSSM at 3200 - 3225fps and 3 shot groups at 100 yards measure 0.564" ; I load the 110 grain TSX using IMR 4350 in my Browning A-Bolt 270WSM at 3540 -3550fps and 3 shot groups at 100 yards measure 0.452".  I have had no problems with copper streaking or fouling even at the high velocities.  I just started loading the 130gr. TSX using IMR 3031 powder for my Remington 7600 30-06 at 3235-3250fps and 3 shot groups at 100 yards measure 1.374"  I haven't played with other powders yet because I'm getting ready to move and they won't ship powder or primers, but Barnes recommends Big Game powder for the 30-06 and 130gr. TSX as the most accurate load.  I have been very pleased with the TSX in these three rifles so far.  They have proved to be very accurate and there has been NO copper streaking or fouling.  Give Ty Herring a call, he's the Barnes reloading expert and he'll give you the load data that you're looking for.  He's a great guy to deal with, here's the #1-800-574-9200   or  #801-756-4222.  Hope this helps.  Happy shooting.
