22 CB for small game
« on: February 09, 2008, 08:16:22 AM »
I am thinking of buying a contender with the 22 barrel to hunt squirrels here in the woodlots of PA. I like using 22 CB shells to keep the bushey tails from pinpointing me and in my Rem. 514T  bolt action they are silent. At this point every year the hills are steeper and the woods are fruther away. lol. I'm looking for something easier to carry while still being very quiet. Has anybody done this?

I have shot them out of my Buckmark with the 10" barrel.
They are not as quiet as you want.  The 12 or 14" barrels should be.
I'm actually building up a scout rifle in 22 that I plan on sighting in with CBs.
It is a bolt action tube fed Savage with a 2X pistol scope mounted on it.
I find the CB effective on critters in the back yard.
Good hunting

I shoot the cb's some in my contender lr. barrel and they shoot fine.. have shot little game with them though... the barrel is only 10 inches on mine so it is qiuet but not silent.  I felt like it would be great to pot a squirrel or so from a deer stand withot a lot of noise..I will use them more this summer in preparation... I used to shoot a lot of birds with them long ago in a rifle.

When I was a kid I used the CEEbEE long a lot but it was out of a rifle, they where very quite and accurate and surprisingly powerful.

One time I saw a goose out in a field, it was  well over 200 yards and I never thought  I would hit it let alone kill it.I added a lot of Kentucky windage to the rifle and squeezed the trigger, well a few seconds latter I saw the goose flap it's wings and take a step and fall over dead

When I went to get the goose I got caught and talk about a scared kid, it turned out to be a domesticated goose and the owner ate it for dinner and never did tell my parents.

nope well over 200 yards mind you I used a lot of Kentucky windage
now mind you a normal 22 L.R. can be deadly at over a mile
