I have a new to me, Ruger Mark II Target. I have tried Rem 22 Thunderbolts and Rem 22 Goldens and the Goldens have no stuck shells, etc. while the Thunderbolts seem to jam while chambering the rounds at least once in every clip! What is the difference in these two bullets that it would have such an effect in my gun?  I am new to handguns in general...are these type of differences in ammo typical?

The difference? Night and day. Really about the only thing not different is both bear the Remington name and are for the .22LR. Dat's about all the similarity there is.

My gun sure knows the difference GB!
I am just trying to understand the difference in quality though, is it a different factory process or different components to the ammo that accounts for the performance difference? I tend to be a logical person and I know in this case I must not have all the information to understand what happened.

Aren't the Thunderbolts plain lead bullets while the Golden bullets have a copper wash coating?

I haven't tried the Golden Bullets but I find Thunderbolts to be the most filthy .22 ammo I have ever shot.

I'm sure the case is the same and likely so is the priming. Dunno for sure on powder however. The bullet is completely different and yes as I seem to recall from back when I tried some I think they are merely was coated plain lead and are not copper washed but don't wanna swear to that. I also "think" I remember the bullet nose shape is different.

thanks guys that does help clarify it.

the Thunderbolts do look like plain lead with a round nose bullet, while the Goldens have some type of coating on them and appear to be a hollow point of some type.

Now to find a way to use those 2 bricks of thunderbolts I bought on sale over Christmas...maybe I just might buy another gun and see how they work in it! I have been thinking about a 22 rifle for awhile...

Jal5, if you get a new gun try a cheap savage auto rifle with the thunderbolts mine loved them .  superdown
