My son just traded for a Rock Island 1911 45 any experience with this brand?
Got a good trigger seemed to feed well with my reloads.He traded a  Taurus Pro Mil. 45 for it.

I absolutely love my GI model.  I've put 4 brands of ammo through it in different bullets and it just keeps shooting.  My 16yr old daughter also loves it.  It also carries really well in my Galco IWB holster.

I'm picking up my GI model from the FFL tomorrow.  I can't wait.  All that I've read about the RIA is good.  They appear to be well made, will fire just about any ammo, and have very good customer service should you ever need it.  As soon as I get a few rounds through it I will post the results.  Did I say I can't wait?????

Don't own a RIA, but got an opportunity to examine one, and take it to the range. It was the compact model, all steel. The pistol looked good inside, well fitted and minimal tool marks. At the range, it fed both hardball and my 200gr LSWC bullets without a hitch. It shot to point of aim, and had a pretty decent trigger. Only two things I didn't like were the sights. It has the standard GI dovetail rear and the tiny staked in front. They are less than practical for a defensive pistol. The other was the finish and grips. The price out the door was about $400. If it were mine, I would want the Novak sights and a hard chrome finish applied. That would mean another $250 invested in the gun, for a ready to go price of about $650. For that money I could buy a compact in SS with decent sights. Guess if I could live with the finish, I could reduce that by $150. That would get you into a pretty decent compact 1911 with usable sights for around $475. If you look at it that way, it's a bargain!

he got a great deal  just put sights on it  if your older than 25 they are too small cdnn runs night sights no sale every now and then i sent mine back to armscor for installing them. big enough to see in  the daytime and like headlights at night

This past weekend I put 100 rounds through my RIA GI model without a hiccup.  It shot the 230 gr Winchester fmj's into 2-3 inch holes.  In fact some of them shared holes.  The shot of the day was by my wife who managed to hit a water bottle off a fence post at about 30 yards.  Annie Oakley lives in this family.  I can't wait to shoot my "Rock" more.  I just need to avoid the customization bug that 1911 shooters tend to get.

I have been happy with mine, have put 350 rounds through it so far.  Good accuracy, very reliable.  Installed a recoil buffer and put on checkered grips.  The ammo used has been factory loaded 230 grain FMJ.

I bought mine back when they were 300 dollars , it was an absolute steal  , it is as reliable as either one of my springers but will out shoot them both , I should buy another one , last I seen they were about 350.00

Update: My friend has put another 150 or so rds thru his RIA. He brought it by the other evening, and I was astonished at how light the trigger had become! A couple of weeks ago, the gun had a decent trigger for an out of the box pistol. The trigger pull feels about half the weight as it was when I originally shot it. I STRONGLY argued that he take the pistol in to check it out. I am concerned that perhaps the fire control parts are not properly fitted, or the metal is soft and wearing rapidly on the sear and hammer hooks area. Anyone else have the fire control parts wearing in that quickly?

maybe but the trigger pull weight is the best test.about 3.5 or 4 lb under that it will slam fire.if your used to a heavy trigger you cant tell by feel.RIA are better made than coltas was the Norico. colt needed to drop the ejection port and tighten up onspec,which they never did.

I and my son each have 1 I have the GI model his is the Tactical model his cost 25 more then mine mine 350 his 375 for the 25 extra bucks I would have bought the tactical just didn't know at the time they offered it. So I will either trade the GI off or just buy another1. The wife and I have this deal when she gets new shoes I get new guns.. Great deal I think

I gave $375 for mine, it was fired little. and finished as you see it. The only things I did were swap the grips and have King-Tappan sights installed. I consider the RIA to be the current successor to the Norinco. Is it that good? YOU BETCHA! Regards, Richard ;D

Or-------------you could buy a decent set of sights, (If the dovetails are standard size) and install them yourself for free. For fixed sights, I really like the Novak style.
