i'm like pj, the 480 ruger would be great, but about the only limit the .308 would have, would be your own shooting ability. the 480 would limit your range some.
put a good scope on a .308 and have a ball! i shoot the 7-08 myself and like it very well.
brass, bullets, factory ammo is also more plentiful for .308.
now, i'm not saying the 480 is not good, just that my own personal preference would be a .308 first. now don't think that just one barrel is gonna do. when contenderitis, and encorosis sets in, you're in trouble. you can then add the 480 ruger to ease the pain.

then, when the pain starts to come back again, a .223 would make a nice, well rounded three barrel set. :wink:
