30-30 loads

I just picked up a super 14 barrel in 30-30 and I'm anxious to start making up some loads. I have IMR 4064, 4350, and 4895, varget, reloader 15 and 19 on hand. What are your favorite loads/powders/bullet weights? thanks for any help

Nosler 125BT and of the powders you have on hand, IMR4064.  I would prefer IMR3031 or REL 7.  I've not tried Varget.  It might have potential there.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt

My 30-30s at this point are Winchester I don't have a 30-30 barrel for T/C.
34.7gr 4064 with 125 flat point HP Sierra worked good for them.

My brother uses IMR 4895 behind Nosler 125 gr ballistic tips in his Contender Super 14 .30-30.  Very accurate and deadly on Michigan Whitetails.  I'm going to try the same in mine.

All these are max loads , to start reduce and work up watching for signs of excess pressure, Use at your own risk , were safe in my super 16 barrel your luck may vary.These loads do not exceed the listed data for Tc contender 14 inch barrels.

32.0 of 3031 with 150 gr. Hornady SST works well in my 14" Contender and my Savage 340.  Hornady 1100 Gr. Short Jackets with 16.0 gr. of 2400 work well for small game up to coyote size.

thanks everybody, I've just loaded up some 150 grain loads with 4064 and 4895 and even some 100 grain plinkers with unique.  I am going tomorrow to the only place here in waco that stocks a decent reloading selection. I'll probably order some 125 grain bullets from midway if the store doesn't carry them, but I'm sure they have Reloader 7 and 3031. I don't know if I can wait till the weekend: I really want to try these out!

WACO  , for plinking  and jack rabbits try try some 110 RN and 10 gn of Unique with a pistol primer

Grab a box of Sierra 125 TNT'S  load em hot and altho I have not shot rabbits with em , fist size holes appear in ground hogs when the bark of the barrel dies down.

Just a follow up:  I'm loading up the 125 grain speer TNTs that just came in from midway. Some Sierra 125s and a Warne steel base came in as well. I've been waiting for a nice deal on a Leupold to come across ebay, but I couldn't wait so I slapped a BSA red dot I had laying around and shot this weekend in high wind. I was pleasantly surprised  at 100 yards off a rest wit three out of four in a one inch triangle using 28.5 grains of Reloader 7. I'm thinking about just buying a bushnell trophy or a used fixed power burris from ED's. The best part about it was I even made a certain fella eat his previously doubtful words.

Sounds like you're on the right track. 1" group with a red dot at 100yds. is d__ good in my book.

I had mine out  Tuesday. 3/4 inch average and that is good enough for me. Super 16 10 x Burris ler. Shooting off a rear sand bag and my Harris clamped on the barrel.

I can't wait until my grip, forend, and scope get here. Too bad the best deal I found online for a bushnell trophy 2-6x has a nickel finish. I have six different loads of reloader7 behind those 125 grain tnt's to try when it gets here. It did pretty well for the budget setup that is on it now. I just couldn't wait for the parts to come in to take it out.
Does anybody have experience you could share regarding using cast bullets on silhouette? I'm pretty sure I have quite a few back home in Austin, of which weight I'm not sure. This would cut down my costs and allow me to get some more practice in.

I used to use some 130gr flat nose cast bullets for everything but the rams, switched to 150gr jsp for them. 10" barrel and didn't adjust the sights between shots.
Held on the base of the chicken, belly of the pig, dead on on the turkey and top of the back for the rams

  Olschool, I did the same thing but I used a 180 RCBS mold for the rams. You could light a cigar on the faces of the Nosler shooters!

That sounds like just the ticket.  I'm pretty sure I have a 180 grain mold, but I'll have to check on the 130gr. My secondary perogative is to put that same red face on a friend of mine who has never said a kind word about TC's. He's gonna wonder why I'm holding a camera when I tell him how much I'm saving compared to his sierra matchkings. priceless

My 10" barrel likes the Rel 7.  Most of my loads are with Rem 150 bulk bullets.  1" < groups at 100 is norm with 2x leupold scope.  I have some cast bullets to try in a 14" barrel, but have yet to load any up.  From my data and other sources, I will probably try Unique and SR4759 with the cast bullets.  Hope to try them in my Winchester model 64 for cowboy lever action also.
