BUSHNELL SPORTSMAN SCOPE

G'Day to you all,
 I was wondering what everyone's opinion is of  the Bushnell sportsman 1.5 - 4.5 ,I've read on this site about the banner ,which sounds outstanding.The sportsman if suitable will go on the BC 45.70 . Thank you all in advance ,especially Tim as you have been extremely helpful.

Thanks Allan, but I can't help ya on the Sportsman, not much experience, I have a camo Sportsman that was on my 357 Max for a while, but it's been replaced with a Swift 2-7x40 on the 35 Remington. I'd go for the Banner if you can, not much more money, and it has an excellent reputation on a 45-70s. The only caveat is the large power ring and eye bell, it makes mounting in high rings manditory unless you do a little grinding on the tip of the hammer spur and modifiy the fit of the extension so it sits low on the hammer.

If you have access to Gander Mountain, they have 2X7 Banners for $65, if they are still on sale, if not they are $80. They come with Butler Creek flip up covers that spices up the deal a little too. They are shotgun scopes so have a fixed parallax at 50 yds, but also have a long 5" eye relief. The covers are worth $15 or so by them selves and they are sweet.

please, mate, get up off your wallet and buy a Banner.    the sportsman is below the sportview, i believe.  i think it's their entry-level scope, which would be good on .22 rimfires.    don't send a boy to do a man's job, brother.   buy a banner.

I think the Bushnell Sportview and the Sportsman are the same thing now, but I've been wrong before. The Sharpshooter is the bottom rung. I have two fixed 4x32 Sportsview scopes and good scopes for what they are. One sits on an old Marlin 30-30 and the other is my beater utility scope. It's been on a 45/70, 450 Marlin, 3006, etc. while I decided what permanent scope I wanted for them. However, fixed 4 power scopes, no matter what they cost, are usually pretty tough so can't speak for the variable scope you are talking about.

I had a Bushnell Sportview that was all over the place. Eight feet low at 25 yards with no more adjustment to move the POI up. Absolute Garbage.  I bought it after reading a magazine article Titled " A Good Cheap Scope". I don't bother with such stuff anymore as it is a waste of my time. Needless to say I took the scope back for a refund.
