Warrior1,

My 1895 has microgroove rifling and shoots cast bullets accurately.

I have taken 4 black bear, 1 coastal Griz a couple of hogs and several deer with my Guide Gun. I will be in Idaho the last week in May for spot & stalk black bear but I will use my 06 for this hunt given the potentail long distance shots. I will be in either BC or Alaska fall 2009 for griz again but will use either a 338mag or 375 ruger. I love the 45-70 but given the potential distance of these shots, I'm going with one of these rounds. It is an extremlly deadly cartridge with the right bullet and is capable of killing anything in NA.

I have several kills with the 45-70 but lack those pictures because none were taken at the time.  Another guy that uses his in Alaska has taken one of the biggest in North America that I know of, and said I can use his picture and story.  For more on Hunting Hard In Alaska  http://www.huntinghardinalaska.com

This was the result of a one-hole group, quartered-on, through the chest at 25-yards.  430 grains of Buffalo Bore.  She was alerted to my presence when the air left her chest and she flattened out for me.  I get the rug back in two weeks.  8.5 feet.  19-year-old sow.
