"hanging soda can minnow set"?
« on: February 12, 2008, 03:21:35 AM »
i heard this set mentioned while looking at some wed sites on line and it peeked my interest. It was invented by Johnny Thorpe who has long been a hero of mine and is quite a reputable guy as im sure most of you already know. Im just curiouse if anyone else has ever heard of this set or maybe even tried it. If so, what does it target? how do you make it? It just sounded to interesting to not try and dig a little more information on. thanks guys!

That set is a new one on me.I have used small pvc pipe on a stick using shellfish bait, and I am guessing it may be a similar type of set--just not sure.

I had thought about using some kind of "hanging bait", but it is not legal for use here in Arkansas.  I believe it would be very effective at catching raccoons...they would be thinking about their next meal and looking up.  Instead of looking for my chain going to my trap(seem to grab the chain, pull the trap, and them turn it over-easy eating).

Trapping continues until mid-April for coyote here, and was thinking about using some type of feathers/fur above the set, but I guess that would also be against the law.

Scott, some states allow the use of some feathers and fur as attractants. The hanging can would probably not constitute, exposed bait, because it is enclosed.
Your chain should be buried, and not left on the suface.

i agree with bog, in ny bait constitutes as something the animal can ingest. feather and attractors i dont think would apply. try it out!
