Well, I got my frame back from the gunsmith today !! He got my trigger pull down from 7#3 oz to 2#8oz ! I worked on my pachmayr forend until nothing is touching the barrel but a couple of washers where it mounts. I took a sand bag this time . And I bought some "managed recoil" .308 rounds !

My 25 yrd group went from completely missing some shots(blowing dirt on some) and maybe 4-5 " on my good shots ...................................to clover leafs !! Couldn't ask for better unless they went in the same hole !!

My 50 yrd group was very good also................so I just went ahead and stuck out the target at 100-110 yrds !! Last time I could not even make an adjustment at 50 yrds because I was all over the place !!

So at 100.......I still need some advise ! I shot 14 rounds . 7 hit around the center forming about a 4.5" group..................but the other 7 made about a 3.75" group around 6" low and 3" to the right !!

If I were looking at this like a bow and dissected my target .............the majority of my shots were low and to the right of the bullseye (75%.........25% correct or high left). So I suppose I need to make some small adjustments and do some more shooting !!

Of the 7 that went low and right, were they all consecutive shots? Even with a sand bag and "reduced rounds" after several long strings if recoil was starting to affect you you could be over compensating and changing your wrist angle and finger depth resulting in a "pull" pulling the shots down and right

Unfortunately ............it seemed 50/50. Id shoot roughly 4 at a time and have 2 close and 2 low and to the right !! I never felt like I pulled really bad or anything.............and really was surprised at how it happened on 3 groups in a row !! The overall group was 12" ..............and while I know that's terrible..........it is encouraging compared to how bad I shot at 25-50 yrds with this gun the first day !!

I will say that 2.5# on a pistol is a lot more sensitive than I thought it would be .............I had several shots that were somewhat of a surprise ................don't know if those were the good or bad ones though !! I feel "now"..........that I probably should've went with a more recommended 3-3.5# !

And "yes" .........while the managed recoil bullets do kick less.............they still thump pretty descent . Maybe in a rifle it's a lot less.............in my gun it feels like a 20-25% reduction !!

  Have a "friend" go with you and load the ammo with out YOU seeing if it is a fired case or a loaded round. You MAY have developed a flinch. Causing some rounds to go low and right. You may be pushing the gun away as you squeeze the trigger. When doing this loading and handing the gun back and forth BE VERY CAREFULL,AS NO ONE WANTS TO BE SHOT! You should get better as you practice. I'd stay around the 50 yard mark for a while. After I could put all the shots in a small circle for several 5 shot groups I'd move out to 100 yards.  You can also practice with a rimfire handgun shooting only 10 or 20 .308's in the entire session.

JHalcott has some good advice.

I have found that even a very slight movement at the shot (say coming from the anticipation of recoil) will cause the shot to be off by 2-3".

Most likely you are still "flinching" even a bit.

I think that working up to the recoil is the best way to handle recoil.  I started all my shooting with T/C's using 22LR, then up to 7-30 Waters,then a 30-30AI then 308, then 30-06JDJ, then a 7Mag, and now shoot a 280 AI.  By stair stepping up in recoil intensity, I was able to shoot all of these rounds without having muzzle breaks.

I certainly would not have wanted to start right out with the 308 or one of the other big kickers.

Another thing that really helps me a lot is to "ignore" the fact that the gun is going to recoil when I shoot it.  That takes a lot of mental focus.  I simply only think about my hold on the target and my intended goal of putting the bullet where I want it.  Since I know the gun isn't going to hurt me, as long as I hold on to it firm enough to keep it from coming out of my hand.

Went and shot a bunch today !! I freakin' love this pistol although it's going to take some practice !!

I more than appreciate all the advise I have been given...............but I have inadvertently left out information (sorry)...........

Last time I shot "After" the trigger job. I shot a combination of 125 grain Rem. managed recoil and some Wolf 150 grains. The Rem. literature says that the MR bullets shoots about the same POI as regular loads........and I believed it .......like a dumbarse ............and have screwed around with my scope so much while shooting 2-3 different loads !!


I figured out today........the managed recoil bullets out of my gun .....for me...........shoot about 4" higher at 100 yrds than 150 grain bullets(2 sessions now). This gun seems very forgiving of different brands of 150's .(shoots them all well)...and groups tighter with 150's than the MR 125's !!

So after a lot of frustration and money on bullets...............I have figured out I can shoot 150's really well out to 100 yrds. My groups were within 2" for the most part (had some wild shots that I knew where wild)!!

As far as getting help flinching and needing a partner to load empty/good bullets for me to work with..............this is totally unnecessary with Wolf ammo. Wolf ammo only has about 2-3 out of 4 that fire ...............so you get all your flinching problems fixed while shooting it!! LOL
