I believe most of the rifles made for 9.3x74 will either be a single shot, or a double barrel rifle, either in SxS, or O/U configuration.  I'm a 9.3x74 fan, and I would opt for a Ruger #1.

In the real world it's not gonna make one bit of difference which you choose. Just make sure the bullet is 250 grains or more and it will get the job done if you do your job and put it in the right place. To me the traditional 286 grain weight seems about ideal for the bore and I don't really think you can go wrong chosing any bullet of that weight made today.

Both are 286gr.  The Alaskan was designed in the 1940's wile the Oryx is a modern bullet.

I have both but have not used either bullet.

Hornady has a new load for the 9.3x74 as well. I definitely have the burning desire for a 9.3x74. I can't imagine any factory load available not being adequate for hogs. After all it is primarily an African cartridge

Nosler is loading the 9.3x74R with their 286 NP...  That should cover anything that walks in north America!

Those NP's are close to $100 per box, the Norma's are around $50.  For the price I will stick with the Norma.

Depends...  If your going to reload them, the Nosler brass will last many times longer than the norma, and that means in the end will be cheaper...  Also, the NP is a lot more bullet than Norma's too...  Not that you need it for hogs...

The Hornandy will be good brass too...  But, i've been using RWS in my double for many years now, and it's excelent brass!

I like the NP but given the 9.3x74R is my hog gun I believe the Norma is more than enough for hogs.

Seeing as the Nosler 9.3 brass is so new, i can't give you a positive "yes"...  But, i know in 9.3x74R the Nosler brass is "thicker" than the Norma 9.3, and i already know from experience that the Norma 9.3 brass sucks...  So, i think i can safely say "in this case" it will be better... (i'm talking about for reloading here)

I also know that over the years all of the Norma brass i've ever bought, including all the Norma mfg.d Wby. brass, the Norma brass has been too soft in every case, and doesn't last as long as other brass.

When i mfg'd ammo, i saw this over and over and i now avoid Norma brass every chance i get.

I'm not a bona fide reloader myself, but I have reloaded some with my brother.  I can remember one instance that does match what you are saying about the norma brass.  It all fits, and I believe you.
I once had a 9.3x74, wish I still had it.  I think I have about 5 boxes of Norma with the 232 grain bullets, or something close to it.
Now I wish I had a rifle to go with it. :)

I think it would be a non issue for Norma brass, "if" the cartridge has a decent "shoulder" and was kept to lower pressures.  The problem is, the 9.3x74R has almost no shoulder, and unless your extremely carefull you get excessive case stretching with there brass.

In a bolt gun or something like a Ruger #1, when you push the pressures up, then new problems crop up...like loose primer pockets...

I have a double and a combo in the 74R, but i designed an "improved" reamer and my double is now an 9.3x74R "improved".  Here's a pict of the factory 74R case and the imp. version, both loaded with 286 NP's...

I did all of this long ago, and it's still on my "to do" list to wring the new chamber out...
