Uberti 1875 Army Outlaw - Frontier
« on: February 15, 2008, 08:01:33 AM »
Has anyone owned or shot one of these revolvers?

I'm considering the purchase of one of these revolvers in either .357 Mag. or 45 Long Colt.
My plans are to reload for it and use it for hunting varmints.

I'd like to know about the accuracy capabilities of this revolver. :)

Your opinions and experiences are appreciated.
Thank you, Bowhunter57

I think that 44 man may have said he had some and experienced them in a positive way... good luck with your search.

Well, I went to a gun shop in Cincinnati called Target World and was able to put my hands on several models of Uberti handguns.
After some extended periods of fondling them all, I decided to get the Cattleman in 45 Long Colt with a 7 1/2" barrel, blued barrel/cylinder finish, case hardened frame finish and brass trigger guard and backstrap. At $400 + tax it certainly seemed like a good deal and it's a classic looking handgun. I'm going to go back and pick it up with the Government "booster" check that we're supposed to be getting in May or June.

Bowhunter,

I've owned and shot my .45 Colt 1875 Uberti for over 25 years and find it to be a durable, well-made clone of the Remington revolver.  My shooting buddy has one in .37 Magnum.  We find field accuracy to be all it needs to be and they are totally reliable.  The timing and endshake remain as tight as when it was new.  The fixed sights will take se load development to get it to shoot to point-of-aim.

If I had a complaint, it would be that the chambers are a bit oversize by American standards.  Both factory loads and handloads produce a pronounded bulge ahead of the rims.  The chamber throats are also a bit oversized, but not enough to prevent the gun from giving 2"-2 1/2" groups at 25 yards.

I have a 5 1/2" Cattleman myself and I´m very pleased with it.
Did this shooting today, 5 shots one-handed at 25 meters. ;D
