Gettin back into the 45-70s, eh!! Kinda hard to stay away from em. ;D I almost bought one a week ago, they had it marked down with a green tag and on sale ta boot.

Congratulations, nice rifle. Are you going to scope it or just stay with the OEM sights? I have a scout system on mine with an XS Ghost ring.

Congrats on the GS. I am sure you will get a lot of enjoyment out of that little bugger. They are a fun gun to shoot. You can load them with plinking to stomper loads. Nice and versital rifles they are. Every serious levergunner should have at least one.

Tim, we went out to buy her a " sparkley" and she laid eyes on that one and once again proved that I have the perfect wife.I plan on a 340 @ 1500 for a walking around load and a Buffalo Bore for serious social work.   Doug

Just bought me one off AuctionArms that looks just like that bottom gun, Swampman, and from the pictures (haven't got it yet), appears to be in about the same condition as yours.  Mine has a 4-12 Bushnell mounted on see-thru rings. Paid $375 + $25 S&H, so if it shoots good, I don't think I got hurt on it.

Dan Deluca aka "warrior1" has passed away.  Dan was a frequent poster here and on several other sites.  He passed away on 12/29/08 from a massive heart attack. RIP Dan.

Great guns.  Took lmy 1895 deer hunting last year and got two with it.  Only trouble was I had it loaded with a 300 hp at Marlin level and that doesn't leave a lot when you hit them with it. ;D  I think this year I will drop to trapdoor level with either the 300 HP or a 405 SP.  I got another one with a 300 hard cast in my Handi.  I really like to shoot the 300 hard cast over a light load of Trail Boss.  It.s a real accurate load in either rifle.  Have fun.

OK guys,
While we are on the subject, I have a Gibbs "Summit" .45/70 built on a #4 Brit Enfield action. Do you guys think it will stand the pressures that my M1895 Marlin will stand? I have a nice 400 gr. load that I like for my '95, but it's a little stout, and I just wondered if the Enfield action would take it without stretching. I've only put factory ammo through the Gibbs so far, and with the way loaded down factory, that "porky" Enfield is fun to shoot. And pretty accurate too! Thanx, Mike

SAAMI spec's for the 303 Brit shows 49,000psi, most loads for the '95 are in that area or less.IMHO they should be fine, now that I have said that ,all of the disclaimers  know to men and personal injury Attorneys are in place,  ;D   Doug

AREA=3.1416*(HS/2)^2

HS=the diameter of the inside of the case head.
CPSI=cartridge pressure in pounds per square inch.

303 British HS=.385" CPSI=49,000 Thrust=5704psi
45-70 Gov't HS=.460" CPSI=28,000 Thrust=4653psi
45-70 Gov't HS=.460" CPSI=34,325 Thrust=5704psi
45-70 Gov't HS=.460" CPSI=42,732 Thrust=7102psi

The 45-70 at 40,000 CUP is approximately 42,732 psi.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find pressure values in my reference materials. I'm surprised the Enfield rates that strong with only one locking lug. Good to know. I load up my .45/70, but I don't get carried away, I have other rifles to do more.

Well I had a weak moment today and bought another 1895 , my other one is a guide gun .
Now my Marlin collection is lookin better.

Just bought a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5X20MM scope lookin sweet!
