For what it is worth, I absolutely love the 260. Of all the 308 based cartridges, it has an excellent balance between recoil and knock down power. The 243 has been the rifle of choice for my boys for years, but we have had a couple run after good shots. The 308 kicks like a 308, the 7mm 08 is a little better, but will still let you know it is in the 308 family.
I can't tell much difference between a 243 and a 260 in recoil, but I like the bigger bullets.
That said, ammo is a little hard to find, which for many, might be a deal breaker.
243 and 7mm 08 is as common as sand on the beach.
