You will also realize heavier recoil than with a bull barrel. Comparing my full bull .45LC to my octagonal .45LC, even with relatively mild loads (the octagonal barrel has wall thicknesses under 0.09" at the muzzle) the recoil can be unpleasant - particularly with wood. Rubber helps a little. Your .357 octo recoil shouldn't be bad, just a bit heavier.
