Did Knight make a Disc Ext with flutted barrel in 50cal?
« on: February 16, 2008, 12:13:12 PM »
Newbe here with a question. Did knight make the disc ext in 50cal with a fluted barrel? I know they made one in 45cal. I just bought one NIB on line but am worried as to what I might get in the mail.
 If so were they rare?

I saw one that was blue/walnut with a fluted barrel.  Very nice weapon.

Im not sure which stock it will come with as I forgot to ask. I was a little excited when I called on it as the price was only $259. The older Disc Extremes seem hard to come by. Even used. People don't seem to want to give up their knights.

I haven't ever seen one. Who did you buy it from? Was it on a site like Gun Broker if so what was the sellers rating? It could have been a mistake and you might get a 45cal in the mail. Some people sell guns and don't know anything about them and post them up for sale.

It was on fin feather and fur outfitters in Ohio. I think it may be old stock. He told me it was 50 cal as i would not get it if it was 45.

Well then I would hope he is right. If I were not sure I would have questioned it from the beginning and not bought it. If you ever have any questions just bring it here to Graybeards site and ask so it will prevent this in the future. :)

I will be very displeased if it shows up as 45 cal. I will want to return it if that is the case. False Advertising. I also emailed knight to ask them if they ever made it in 50cal.  Not sure if they will get back to
me on it though. Now I getting worried.

Just calm down. Knight has good CS and you should receive something soon. If I were you and he sent a 45cal I would keep it. Its better IMO.

They made fluted .50's as well as fluted .45's. As far as scarcity is concerned it's hard to tell. Knights records from what I've been told  were not top notch. To busy building guns to worry about counting them I guess. I tried to get a handle on how many MK-85's with a true octagon receivers were made. I figure it can't be many but they had no idea. I've seen one in a book, one in a magazine, one at there showroom and mine. I know they made them for only a couple of years. And they skipped around on serial numbers, not to mention you could custom order serial numbers in the old days.

 :)

Thanks guys. After some rest and waking up to your replies I feel much better. Ive been wanting a Disc Ext for a long time. I owned a Wolverine years ago but let it go, and I kick myself to this day for doing so. I did not get to muzzleload hunt this year and missed out on some nice deer because of it. (Not within bow range). This knight wont get away from me.

Thanks Again!

I bought one from the same place over a month ago when it was 239.99. It looks and shoots great. If I had the extra fun money I would have bought a couple. Fins and Feathers were great to deal with and the shipping was fast. Don't worry, you made a good purchase.

The Master Hunter had a fluted barrel in both 50 and 45. It's the only Disc/Extreme with a fluted barrel in 50. The Long Range hunter also has a fluted barrel but it's not a Disc Extreme.

Standard Disc/Extremes were only fluted in 45.

As long as its a "Knight" and it is 50 cal Ill still be satisfied in the long run! Two others that replied got theirs from the same dealer so I only hope its what they say it is. Even the Wolverine with stainless
barrel still goes for over $230.

I bought one last Fall from a big Knight dealer in Baldwin, WI, I think they were part of an ACE hardware store. I gave it to a relative in need since I have 3 Knights. It was a Disc extreme SS fluted 50 cal with a black synthetic stock.

I hate to disagree with Wolfhound because from reading his posts in the past I know he is much more knowledgeable than I am in regard to Knight Rifles. However I am looking at my newest rifle right now. It is a stainless steel fluted barrel and it says disc extreme right on the barrel. I'm not sure how many of them they made like this but they made this one and I sure like it!

It's likely a short run using leftover Master Hunter barrels. If you'll notice they aren't offered on Knight's website. Knight has a tendency to slap leftover parts together and clear em out, usually through an off name dealer or factory special off their website.

That would work for me as a Green Mountain barrel is a Green Mountain barrel. And to think I almost bought a Traditions xlt instead.

If they're Master Hunter barrels your getting a top quality barrel cheap. IIRC Master Hunter barrels are air gauged and cryo treated. They probably aren't making much of of them at that price.

If it is a Master hunter barrel (they did put together parts rifles with master hunter barrels) the serial number will probably have MHDE in it somewhere. Mine is just such a parts rifle and that's what mine says. It's the most accuarate muzzleloader I have fired, and it's a .45 to boot. I once missed a deer and told my father that the gun must be off. He set up a target at 100 yards and told me to check it. I fired and he walked down and looked at the target, he came back and said well the guns fine, but obviously you weren't because it was dead center in the bullseye. I've come to realize with that gun, that on the rare occasion I miss, it was me.

For sure I will check the barrel for that. It would be a bonus.

I have looked mine over closer. On the box, the model number is DE706CF. The F being for the fluted barrel. I am thinking that they are left over Master Hunter barrels. The serial number on the barrel is MHC1XXX. All the better I guess.

Mine should be here tomorrow. I am remaining hopeful. The response Knight sent me stated that they did NOT make a regular run of that model 50 cal with a fluted barrel, but after reading some of your posts I can
read between the lines. They said the only 50 cal fluted barrel they had was on the Master Hunter.

Well it came today, and YES it does have the Master Hunter barrel. I'm glad I waited and shopped around. Fin Fur, and Feathers will be a permanent bookmark on my computer. Can't wait to see what it can do.

I never did think it would turn out bad. The worst I thought is that you would be getting a 45cal which isn't all that bad.

I don't think 45 cal would have been that bad, but I have read a fair share of reviews of their accuracy issues plus I want the 50 cal for larger game in the future. Now if could only get an equally good deal on a scope.
