.204 Ruger questions
« on: February 17, 2008, 10:09:08 AM »
Hello everybody,
This is my first post on this great forum. I found this site while researching info for a .204 Ruger. I am going to order a new barrel for my Contender from Match Grade Machine. I am getting a .204 Ruger for hunting rockckucks and coyotes. I wanted to post my ideas here and get opinions from you before I place my order. I am planning on getting a full bull barrel that is 22" or 23" with a 1 in 10" or 1 in 11" twist. I chose this twist because I plan on using the heavier 39 and 40 grain bullets. My original thought was to go with a .223AI but after researching the .204 I think I will go with it instead. I have never order from Match Grade Machine but have read great reports about their barrels for Contenders. Thanks for reading and I welcome everbody's opinions on my project or anything I may be overlooking. Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with your idea.  Make sure the forend you have or plan to use will fit the barrel you plan to order.

I have a standard 204 Ruger Contender rifle barrel that shoots very well with 45 gr. Hornady bullets.  I also have a 223 AI handgun that will put 3 bullets into 0.5 inches at 100 yards so either choice would be good from the accuracy point of view.
