Mounting Scope ??
« on: February 17, 2008, 11:37:57 AM »
Bear with me Guys, I am new to Contenders.
I wanted to put a better scope on my 16" 223 barrel
so I bought a 2.5 X 7 burris off of ebay.
Here is where my problem comes in.
The scope is longer than the one I took off
and that is why I was looking for info on a new holster.
The new scope sticks back about 1-1/2" more than the old one.
I have been searching for a way to move it forward with no luck.
Can anyone tell me how this could be done and yes more eye relief would be nice.
Thanks,
Mike

These will work

Warne Maxima 1-Piece Steel Weaver-Style Scope Base, Thompson Center Contender

Redfield Scope Base with 1" Standard Rings Thompson Center Contender (mount it backwards, fine for that amount of recoil, don't need all 3 rings)

Stratton Custom TC Accessories Weaver-Style Steel 6-Hole Scope Base Thompson Center Contender (a little pricey, you don't need all 6 holes on a 223, but a great product)

Hope this helps.

 ???Thanks Sharke
Little confused right now but I will check out your suggestions.
How much will this move the scope forward?
I am guessing that I will only use 4 of the 6 holes on the stratten and
move it forward a little with differant holes.
Do you have any pictures?
Thanks, Mike

Most of the online stores like midway show pics.  You will see what I mean when you look at these.  You would only use 4 of 6 on the 6 hole mounts.  It'll probably move the scope forward about 2 inches, maybe a little more.  It looks pretty good also.

Hi Mike,
In addition to the Stratton base, Eabco makes an extended base also.  That will really only gain a 1" or so. Then also you can go with "extended" rings. The combination of the 2, may get the results you want.
I do question, if moving the scope forward will create more holster fit problems. It may or may not, I would look at that issue fairly close before,,, if you haven't already.
Just food for thought before you spend money on new base/rings ;)
