5mm Rem. Mag. ammo
« on: February 17, 2008, 04:30:41 PM »
Pull all of those Remington M-591 & M-592's back out of the closet fellas!

Old Western Scrounger( http://www.ows-ammo.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/1174 ) has 5mm Rem Mag rimfire ammo. It's made by Centurion.
Right now he's running a sale on it at $19.95/50.

Really good price, considering what it has been going for as much as $85.00/50 recently.

Ordered 10 boxes 2 weeks ago. They didn't have it yet. Same with J&G. Very disappointing.

Got 550 rounds of new ammo. The projectile is so blunt that it hangs on the top of the chamber of a 591 when fed from the magazine. I am more than disappointed. Heartbroken is too mild. I hope no one else has these problems. I haven't felt this betrayed since the U.S. abandoned the South Vietnamese.

As posted elsewhere I was able to solve my feed problems by polishing the first 1/8" of the chamber a tiny bit. The stuff shoots pretty well but can't bench test yet because of three feet of snow everywhere!

I'm waiting for the price of the ammo to stabilize a bit before i buy some of it and break out my LH 592.

I noticed the price of the ammo is already coming down...

I paid $15.80 with my discounts from Sportsman's guide. I also bought a like new Model 592M Remington from a friend. I have a ? though. Any of you guys who have bought any of this Centurion 5mm ammo have any accuracy issue's with it. I have tried 2 scopes one a K3 weaver that came on the gun. and the other an older 3-8 banner. and think I should be getting better groups it is shooting 1" at 50yrd but seems to move around a little have not had optimum shooting conditions yet but been shooting other rifles on same days with no ill effects . The banner was on another rifle before without any issues so I am starting to suspect ammo and was wondering if any one else has seen any problems? Kurt

Hi Kurt, I'm getting pretty much the same results as you with my 591. And yes it is the ammo,I understand the factory is making improvements after the first runs and later ammo is shooting as good or better than the original stuff. Good luck, Ken

We'll see I just got another batch yesterday that had been on back order so it should be newer stuff I hope. Kurt

I had the chance to shoot a bunch of the new ammo at Pdogs and had a blast with it nothing wrong with this ammo in my 592 it's not quite as explosive as the 38g Remmington but worked very well had several shots to 400 yrds that did the job it would take a couple of shots to bring it in but piled them up after that. There is a guy who finally has some locally but he's asking $25 a box in anticipation of the Taurus that is supposed to be out soon. I'll continue with the mail order at $18 a box. I now believe this gun shoots good enough to deserve a decent scope. Kurt

Rumor has it that CZ and Savage will chamber guns for the 5mm some time this year, end of the year most likely. A CZ would be great.

Soon I hope, I don't have a CZ yet and would love to have one. Plus, I'm thinking the new CZ may just shoot better than one of the old Remington 591/592's, or at least I hope it will.

Just curious if anyone has heard any additional info on the projected manufacture dates for CZ or Savage 5mm Remington magnum?

First of the year is all I've heard so far. Talked to a gun shop last month and he didn't even know they were comming. Of course the guy isn't big into the CZ's.

Huntersmurf,

Thanks for info...
I have never used a Rem 5mm mag....
But, I purchased one yesterday....
It appears to be "mint"....I'll know when the mail order Leupy arrives if the rifle can produce.
Couldn't wait for the CZ/Savage dates...
I'll post how the REM does in a few weeks.

Is there an OEM or AfterMarket equivalent for Remington 591 5mm "Ammo-Clips"?

JonJon

  Nope...

Back when these rifles were new, i bought a clip feed, and tube feed models new.  I'm sure glad i kept the tube feed model, as i never have to deal with a lost or broken clip...  Also, the tube feed models most times out shoot the clip models...

Thanks Drilling Man,

Your thots have been stored concerning the 592 "tube-feed" model.
I'm looking at a couple of 592's this week....
Maybe one or two more will show up at a gun show this month...

I read on another site that "CZ" is no longer considering marketing a "5mm" rifle in their 452 model in 2009.
