32-20, 32-H&R Mag, 32 ACP etc.
« on: February 17, 2008, 04:34:53 PM »
Anyone thinking of a Stubbing project to one of the .32 cals take a read.  I am finishing up a .32 stub project, the donor barrel was a 20 gauge and the barrel was a takeoff British .303 which I think is selling for $12.00 on one of the gun sites.  These are a near perfect match, the 20 gauge bore and outside barrel diameter match up extremely well to mate these two.  I have a couple of pictures, the barrel is screwed in to a threaded collar that goes in from the breach end, the barrel through the stub is about .620 which is what the bore of the 20 gauge is infront of the forcing cone, and that leaves the .303 barrel with enough diamerter to make a nice sholder to tighten up against.  Cannot really tell where the stub and barrel join.  I would really like to keep this one!  Larry

That would be sweet, and while you're at it go ahead and chamber it for the new .327 mag. Make me one while you're at it. Seems like you would be good for tree rats to white tails here in eastern Kantuckee.

I fit the ejector tonight, on this barrel I used a .223 ejector even though it is a rimmed cartridge, on the first 32 H&R barrel I used a modified Hornet ejector.  They both work well, on this one I had to put a lifter button in the barrel, I didn't on the hornet, but I did have to modify the Hornet ejector.  I would say use what you have on hand.  The barrel band is bored to the right size for the barrel, I still have to shape it up some, I use a belt sander.  Good luck, I would hope some young guy with a little lathe will start doing these up, I am just too old to do many of them.  Larry

I'm a young (er?) guy that tried to convert my versa pack 410 barrel to 32 S&W long (inspired by trotterlg's work) with my chinese mini lathe. Barrel was an ebay won 7.62x39 SKS barrel, NOS job. It actually shot pretty good but looks liked crap and has no ejector (no sights or fore-arm stud for that matter)...I cut a notch in the chamber to pick out the empty's with a screwdriver...I guess I want a 32 S&W long handi rifle with an ejector pretty bad Larry, but I'm no machinist....
I have a couple hundred rounds of 32 S&W shorts and longs loaded up along with the dies, bullet mold , etc. etc.....

Keep up the good work Larry,

Ron

This is the finished barrel on my frame, I will try to shoot it tomorrow and ship it.  17 inches long, this will make a real nice rifle I think.  Larry
