MY NEW ADL! (pics)
« on: February 18, 2008, 05:05:58 PM »
I picked up a new Remington 700 ADL today!
Got it at the local #@%*-mart. There is a good way to blow an hour and a half.

It has a matte finish and a mossy oak synthetic stock.
Also has the new X-Mark trigger. Feels very nice to me.
I should have pics up in the morning.

That scope will be coming off as soon as my new one comes in.

O yea it's a two seventy.
You guys think a 700 in 270 will kill a white tail?

Caliber and pics are needed. It's a slow day and way to blustery and cold to hit the range so I need to live vicariously thru some of you  8)

I just picked one up too in 243cal. at a local pawn shop for $375 NIB.  I'm going to rebarrel it with a 20" 308 tactical barrel I bought on Gun Broker cheap, $70.00 cheap.  The barrel is unfired and should be here in a few days.   What does a 243cal unfired barrel go for these days?  Thanks guys.

Yea a 270 is a great flat shooting deer round for sure. I have not checked the energy of it but I bet it would be good on deer out to 450 to 500 yards. Dale

If she will group them descent federal shows the 140g Accubond over 1000ft# at 700yd.
Doubt I will ever try that on deer.

;D
This is the most accurate rifle I have ever seen.
I shot it again yesterday to site in the new scope.

100yd with 150g Winchester gray box.
First two shots touching. Adjusted the scope.
Next two over lapping.
New Simmons master series adjusted right ware I wanted first try.

100yd 130g Winchester gray box. Barrel getting warm.
3 shot 1" group .5" higher than 150g.

Backed up to 200yd after shooting my 22lr until the 270 cooled off.
150g shot just over 1" groups as I adjusted up.
130g were wider at about 3". Again the barrel was warm.

I found myself wishing I could turn the 6x scope a little higher at 200yd.
I think I will try a different target.

After looking at my earlier post it doesn't seem to be as picky about the load as it is about heat.
Whitetail be ware.:)

My stock was touching the left side of my barrel.
Sanded that out before I ever shot it. You may want to check.

Also I did notice that a 150g kicks a little with just  a T-shirt on.
Before I shot in heavy coat weather. Not so bad.

Link to the other report.

Yep the Remington 700 ADL  .270cal will take deer all day long.   I bought this one in the 80's.  It has put down a few  deer and  coyotes.  I lost one deer I shouldn't have tried to take in bad lighting at sundown.     Took a coyote at approximately 325 yards in a once in a million shot.

I gotta laugh when I hear people talking about how junky the new Remmy's are. I have 6 M700's ranging from 1983-2004 and guess which one shoots the largest groups......the 83 model..lol. They may not look as fancy as the older ones but they sure as heck are shooters. I would like to try some different brands...but when I pull em out of the box and put a trigger job and scope on them and never shoot over a 1.5 group with them its hard to change..lol.

Parts Man, excellant choice. I mentioned the great results that I obtained with the used ADL 270 back when you asked about which rifle to buy back in Dec. I believe. Looks like your rifle about duplicates the performance of mine. Wait till you use those 140 Accubonds on Deer, they sure did the job last fall on Mule Deer, Antelope & an AR. Whitetail.
You will not make peace with the Bluecoats, you are free to go.
