Tight-wad Bipod

I was in Cabela's the other day and was looking at picking up a new biopd, but just could not bring myself to plunk down that much cash for a couple of sticks.  I was on Varmint Al's website and saw his Bi-Fur-Pod which prompted this idea.  I went to a second hand store and purchased two golf clubs, came home and used a pipe cutter to remove the head.  I then drilled a hole through the grips about 4 1/2" from the top.  I pushed a 1/4" bolt with a nylon lock nut on the other side, and now I have a pretty good bipod for the whopping price tag of $6.43.  Now my boys (11 and 8 years old) think they need a set too.  I guess I will have to make another trip to the second hand store tomorrow.

Good for you . I did the same thing with some tent poles from a junk tent.

I used some scrap wood (oak) to make mine. Cut 2 pieces 3/4 x 3/4 by whatever length you want. I made several different lengths for different situations. Bolted them together and glued some felt in the V. Works great.

IMO: The main advantage of the sticks over a fixed type of bipod is that they make your rifle much more portable.

I make my shooting sticks from the tent pole replacement kits you can buy for about $6 - $8 at Wal-Mart. I make them so they fold up in three sections, and open up to around 30 inches. When you need them, you simply give'em a slight jiggle, and they lock together ready for use in seconds. When you're done, just fold'em up, and carry them in your pocket, or pack.

Making bi pods with golf club shafts is the best use of a golf club I have found so far. I made on a couple of years ago out of a couple my kid drug home.

I also made a taller one from hockey stick shafts. Hard oak and free at the ice rink in town where the schools play their games. I used pipe insulation to pad the, and a wing nut to keep them at the right angle

If you put a little heat on the neck of the head  the shaft will come right out.
I bought two 3/4x3/4x36 sticks at lowes and did the same with the bolt, even added som leather
to the rest.
Seems like the golf club shafts might go in the ground too easy

I make mine out of PVC pipe...5 feet long, put a T on one and you have a mono pod...I use 1 inch and 5/8  (I believe), so you can fit one into the other, buy caps so you can slide the smaller into the larger one, wrap in duct tape and you're done...

My wife brought home a fiberglass telescoping paint roller handle.  You twist it to lock it for the length you want.  I hate to paint, so now I see a better use for it!
