What's the difference???
« on: February 19, 2008, 07:45:20 PM »
What's the difference between the Model 10 and 11?  I'm looking at both of them in 204 Ruger for a predator calling rifle and I can't tell the difference between the 2.  I would prefer a 24" barrel but both of these only seem to offer 22" barrels.  I found an 11FNS with a 24" barrel online but it's not on Savage's website.  Do they offer a blued gun in 204 with a 24" barrel?

thanks,
Ken

There are several model 11's and a few of the model 10's. There is a Model 10 called Predator Hunter. It is completely covered in camo. It is obviously set up for the Predator hunter. The 11 series is called the Hunter. Since it is a hunter, generally they come with the handier 22" length barrel and lighter weight barrels. The lines between the models is very blurred. If you want longer (and heavier) barrels you should look at the 12 series. The 10's and 11's are lighter, making them easier to carry. The 10 Predator Hunter has a slightly heavier barrel they call "Medium-Contour" but it is still 22". It is also set up with the 1.5 - 6 pound Accutrigger.  The standard Accutrigger has a  2.5 - 6 pound range. After doing some more research, it looks like the model 10's have a slightly heavier barrel than the model 11's, but do not quote me on it.

Kenny,
Don't be surprised that you can't tell much difference since there really ain't that much. Both use the same short action. Most of the differences of the models in the Savage line are wood vs. syn stocks and clip vs. internal  box mag. If you can't find the 24" bbl on the Savage website, about all I could recommend is call Savage and ask if they have/will be offering the 24" bbl.  FWIW I've noticed that Savage seems to chamber non mags in 22" tubes and Mags typically are the only ones that get 24" treatment.

Good luck.

savage has 26" blue varmint contour barrels available (I checked with a supplier of factory take off parts)

Not sure which version, but push come to shove, you can swap the barrel simple enough.
